short throw shifter for '16 BRZ manual transmission

I used to have an '06 Scion tC with the five speed. I added the TRD short shift kit which was great. I see TRD has a couple of these for the FR-S/86. Any experience and recommendations on what to get? You could say I am trying to shorten the throw distance when shifting. Thank you in advance.

I have the STI short throw on the BRZ and the stock 5-speed shifter on my 09 tC. If you liked the short throw TRD shifter on your tC, you will be pleased with the STI short throw. It's pretty tight. I shift top-row with my thumb and bottom row with my middle finger. I rarely have a need to touch the knob.

I would need to be sure it fits my 2016 as it seems like the Subaru parts website made it seem like there were differences in the model years.

It doesn't look like it is available for a 2016. Subaru's website shows part # C1010CA100 for the 17+.

That is frustrating. I wonder what the differences are.

Not sure what would best. Would like to keep the stock look, but change the throw.

For the stock look... isn't that just the collar and a knob? What's under it is performance, on top is the icing. You can get an STI knob from Subaru or other websites.

Right. Not too worried about the icing, but want the shorter throw distance.

They are stronger springs to center the shift lever. Supposed to make going from one gear to another more precise.

I don't think the STI short shifter was available prior to 2017 (the TRD one was). When I was looking into short shifters the TRD one apparently had some rattling issues, but I haven't read anything negative about the STI one.

Since the transmission and stock shifter carrier are unchanged throughout the model years it should fit your 2016 no problem.
