The C5 Corvette with the 5.7L V-8 routinely gets 30 hwy MPG without trying. If they kept the low drag and small frontal area and managed an even more efficient and smaller V-8 then mid 30's seems totally possible. That's right in the "have-your-cake-and-eat-it-too" happy place.

Well guys I talked to my GM instructor today and he says he hasnt heard anything about a possible low displacement v8 with twins, but he says he wouldn't be surprised if they went that way.

LS engines are amazing, iv only had to chance to work on a LS1 and LS6, both in rx7s. I dont see why GM need to go a different direction with the engine other than pure curiosity. If anything refine the LS further.

Before anybody gets too excited, I'm a regular at several Vette forums and this thing has been debunked. There's not going to be a 10k RPM corvette engine.
8k is probably the absolute maximum you're going to see. It IS going to be smaller displacement though. Likely a production version of the engines being used in the current crop of C6-Rs. 5.3L I believe? Anyways, look for it to be very similar in character to the 5.0 in the 2011 Mustangs. High-revving at the expense of some low end torque. That should make it a bit easier to launch too. |

It IS going to be a refinement of the LS engine. It'll be a smaller displacement version with direct injection. They're keeping the OHV set-up because of it's size and weight advantages. It's already been demonstrated that LS engines can be made to rev (Z06!). And yeah, pound for pound, the LS series of engine is probably the best production engine on the planet. Barely heavier than a good V-6, compact, amazing torque and power, and they run forever. |

2014 C7 Chevrolet Corvette
Not been a big fan of late model Corvettes. The biggest deal breaker for me is the seats in the C6...just awful. I'm hearing good things about the C7.
If they can put in a world class interior along with Recaro seats (GM, just take the seats from the CTS-V!) and with the rumors of less weight and even more power the C7 should be a home run. This might be my next car. We'll get to see it by the end of the year...can't wait.

Its not post to have a world class interior, its post to be a purebred sports car.
Only reason Dodge Viper has a world class interior is because hes need to compete with all the other $100K sport cars. |

The original render that Jalopnik posted was incredibly beautiful. This recent black car they're talking about.... looks hideous. C pillar is all wrong.
We shall see. |

Just saying that a $50K+ car let alone the $75+ of the Z06 or the $110K+ of the ZR1 needs a better interior than it has now.

the sad part is the cost of making the vette's currently shitty interior is probablt about the same cost as the brz's and the BRz feels like a more exclusive car from the cockpit...hands down, the vette still feels like 1995

But, but, it has hedz up display!!!
$50k ain't cheap. And the Z06 DEFINITELY ain't cheap. At the Corvette's price point, a fairly nice, high-end interior is something that is almost necessary. I really hope they get the C7 right. The Corvette is one of the few modern American cars that I actually like, but I still wouldn't buy one.

My friend has a ZR1 and was showing me the spots in the interior that shouldn't be like that in a $130K car. Given the car is a track beast.
He sits in the FRS and is like "this interior at least has proper fitment! The steering wheel is unique. The steering wheel in the ZR1 is the same exact one found in a cobalt!" So yeah Chevy needs to step it up. |
