"Neo Functionalism" concept was the idea we implemented all along the design process of the current 86. For the next generation we refined it. Ladies and gentlemen we are proud to present you the car that embodies our new concept. The GR HV Sports: "No Functionalism".

As the current generation 86 we added steering wheel controls (to give you a safer car), then we removed the paddle shifters. You will experience a new dimension of unsafety you never dreamed possible in a car with an automatic transmission or an automated manual transmission.

The 3 most common complaints about the current 86 are: the torque dip, not enough power and the mobile phone cubbyhole on cars with start button is too small. For these reasons we decided to remove the cubbyhole.

SOME people think the 86 is a slow car. We thought "What can we do so that ALL people can think the next 86 is a slow car?". We added a big battery and that was really promising (the car was slower), then we added a hybrid system (to act as an excuse for battery presence), but the car started to be fast. That was unacceptable. Our engineers worked day and night until they found a solution. We decided to chop off the roof and subsequently we added a huge chunk of steel inside the car to strengthen the chassis. Now our car is slower than your grandparents.

We know you are thinking "But my sports car regulation doesn't allow convertibles and targa top to compete". Don't worry. We are really confident that some North Korean scientist will sooner or later blow up a laboratory and the whole laboratory's city and the whole country and the entire Korean peninsula and Japan and maybe you too.
Outstanding. That actually reads enough like a Toyota press release that started out in Japanese that it had me going for a moment.

At least Toyota is still dedicated to making fun RWD cars. This is refreshing compared to cars like the Evo CUV and the likely Nissan Z CUV.

Plus, it might give 86 owners even more OEM exterior/interior choices to mix and match.

I see this car as a win-win for current 86 owners, even if we don't plan on buying it.

Other than targa top, center exhaust and it being hybrid, I dont like anything else.

The body lines are similar to the twins and interior is confusing with those massive prndm buttons and similar to the twins. And whats up with the daisy pattern of the wheel!!

Ignition button in the shifter. Nice idea, but I see one problem. Some big dude is going to press it with index finger and the shifter could slide into the 3rd gear.

What a lazy concept car. They should have just put out an updated S-FR. But an 86 with a chopped roof and ugly bumpers? Booo. I hope this isn't an indication of what to expect with the supra concept.

Looks interesting, I wonder how good the H-pattern shifter will be when skipping gears on a downshift or if it'll be locked in a sequential mode. Any idea why they decided to do that instead of the traditional sequential shifter? Not saying it's bad, on the contrary I was wondering how long it would take manufacturers to try and do such a thing.

It will probably be faster than your 86.
