In Japan last month, a couple of the 86/BRZ guys I know took me to the seaside town of Numazu in Shizuoka Prefecture.

They really wanted me to try the fresh seafood from there since it's an area well-known for it. Unfortunately I have no idea what most of I got was. other than the obvious fatty salmon (we missed out on the local special fatty tuna unfortunately because a big beach matsuri "festival" was going on the same day, which they didn't know about, so that stuff was long sold-out).

Sadly I have really bad allergic reactions to fish, so this food ruined the rest of my day and night (throat gets swollen and itchy, stomach gets super achy and painful). I felt bad saying I didn't want to try it so I just went along with it knowing I'd not handle it lol.

But I felt guilty anyway because I basically couldn't finish it so the two guys had to help me lol.

I'm sure you would've enjoyed it!

Oh yeah, also some amazing tempura. Again not sure what exactly the non-shrimp ones were but they tasted great:

Are you allergic to all fish? Only thing that made my throat get swollen was guacamole/avocado. I was (????) allergic to fruits, but I've been eating more and more over the years.

I think you will be okay. I'm a lot smaller than you and I didn't have too much issue till I started adding parts that made my car more of a track rat then a street car.

Sort of, yeah. It's a weird kind of allergy.

I don't have problems making or eating Japanese food that use dashi, which is fish stock. But like straight up fish, raw or cooked, doesn't work with me.

I also have the same reactions to stuff like tree nuts (cashews, almonds, pecans, etc.).

Ah, I see. I think those with nut allergies also have certain seafood allergies. Wonder if there are very similar proteins between the two groups??? Do you carry an epipen? Might be a good idea if you don't already.

I don't. For the most part my issue has been the stomach thing. The throat thing is pretty rare.

How fun! Looks great.

I'm lucky, no food allergies. My mom and her brother both developed Celiac in their 70s. Hope I don't. Gluten free sucks.

Love tempura. I haven't tried making it for decades. I'll have to try again.

Didn't buy anything for Black Friday. All the 'deals' in Canada, particularly Amazon, had a nice price spike last weekend per price tracker extensions and are now "discounted" to the normal price. I feel no need to engage in spending, there are no deals.

Ordered a Beelink SER5 MAX - 32M, 500g SSD last Wednesday.
Should show up next week. A 32M NUC for under $400 seems to be a relatively ok deal if it works.

Hoping to get my desk monitor hooked up to it to do some graphics that have been on a back burner since my laptops' HDMI port blew out a few years ago.
If nothing else, it should make a good-ish Plex server.

It was an amazing time. Also walked through the festival and saw people selling smoked tune heads that were massive, along with all kinds of other pre-cooked fish. It smelled great, wish I were able to eat that stuff.

My allergy thing is the weirdest ever.

I've done allergy testing, none of the results line up with the foods I have trouble with. Doctor said it's "hypersensitivity to certain foods", and I guess hypersensitivity is like an umbrella term that normal allergies fall under? So it's similar but different?

DANG, spike021, I hate to be the one to tell you, but that BIG bite of green stuff in your one picture is NOT fish! No wonder you had a bad reaction -

I can't tell from the pic but most "wasabi" that is served is horseradish with colouring.
Genuine wasabi is much harder to cultivate and hence much rarer and expensive. Wasabi is much milder and not nearly as pungent as the horseradish variety.
