next friday is better, because I'm tracking sunday.

hopefully it's warm enough for the michelins to not slip my off and kill me in some barrier

I have the reverse issue. Switched over to my snow tires last week and then it has been so warm that when I corner too fast they are turning up onto the sidewall a bit. It does make cornering interesting though.

yah weather has been weird, I was considering switching to winters, but now I'm more leaning towards all seasons. Kinda wish I had that option when I bought the car, some of the other areas you can choose to have Turunza instead of the primacies.

This is definitely a question for the cosmetic maintenance section but I don't feel getting crap for not spending 10+ hours meticulously cleaning my car.....and I know a few of the people in OT have a lot of cleaning/detailing experience

I'm trying to keep my car cleaner between the times that I get it detailed. Am I going to do any real damage to the paint if I just take it to one of the those $5 touchless washes and then pull into one of their bays to towel it down with microfiber towels?

I've strongly considered this. I'm no expert but here's my opinion... Assuming you do a good job with the touchless there should only a tiny "residue" of grime left. When you dry it you would rub this into your paint BUT what little there is shouldn't do much. I would expect an increase in swirl marks over hand washing but I doubt it would "destroy" your paint. Worse case scenario you have to get your paint corrected slightly more often(but save time have washing).

Tldr: probably not a big deal unless you have to have 100% paint all the time.

Might do something different for your wheels though, mine are really hard to get clean all over even hand washing.

That is exactly what I do (except they are $12). Do I have swirl marks? Yes, and if you cock your head at just the right angle, get the light to bounce off just right, squint a little and move you head back and forth you just might be able to see them. The garage queen crowd would be appalled but I drive my car and it shows.

Haha... wise decision.

Mine's also a swirlfest but I've successfully sanded & polished out deeper scratches in the clear coat so I'm confident that if/when I have the urge, I'll be able to polish them out completely.

Besides, after a couple years, the finish has actually hardened. It should hold the finish better now.

Honestly wasn't even going to clean the wheels, they are reps with a matte-ish finish that get dirty within a foot of the carwash anyway.

Not worried about the swirls, I get it detailed once a year in the spring and that place does an absolutely beautiful job of removing all the swirls. Just trying to keep all the crap off in between the yearly nice cleaning and not have watermarks.

Thanks for the help all

During the winter I will use the touchless wash 3 or 4 times a week and overall my paint looks no different than the guys that spend hours with their expensive special wash products and detail items (if they actually use the car that is). All this "oh the soap will eat your paint" and "the spray will damage the clear coat" is bunk. They are cars and the paint is designed to last for many years outside. The sunlight will cause more damage that any touchless wash ever will. Maybe we should park in caves!

And as always, we all thank you graciously, and remember why we don't want your job, as cool as it sounds most of the time.
