Even better would be 1 - 1.2 whp per 10 lb.
or you could drive this four-wheeled motorcycle... @ $32,700 ($17K cheaper than an Arial Atom)... seats 3 with McLaren-F1-style seating... turbocharged Subaru power developing 300 HP and the whole shebang only weighs 1,100 Lbs, giving it a power-to-weight ratio in excess of 500 HP per ton and a 0-60 time of 3.0 seconds.

Don't want to shell out for someone else to assemble your car? Kits start at just $6,534 and you can also use a 143 HP Aprilia RSV 1000 R engine if you want to go even cheaper.

Appears to be just the thing for picking up the kids from elementary.

This is what we call 'acceleration' boys...

I have no idea why Atoms are so F'ing expensive. I know they perform, but they are little more than a bike with 4 wheels. This is a lot more reasonable... it does look an awful lot like the atom though.

You would actually drive something like that on a public road?

Good thing I could care two less
about pissing off Camaro / Mustang drivers in a straight line race. Guess thats why I'm interested in this Toyota to begin with? Hmmm, a car who's main engineering focus is nimbleness, handling, and balance, NOT (rAWWWRRR) HP. Stop-light draggin is srs bzns, amirite?

im sorry but i dont want a NA 4cyl, and FI is also very important for who ever mentioned that. If i wanted 80s technology i wouldn't want to spend 25k on a stock car.

Either way ill wait till this car comes out before i make buy something new, and if its not turbo or what not ill just find a nice kit to put on it, but having a turbo option would greatly influence my opinion.

That made me lol.

Apparently N/A is 80's tech.

Wonder what they used in the 70's? Scientists have concluded that:

powered these archaic vehicles.

You missed the point completely. You're stance that N/A is "80s technology" is laughable at best.

Exactly what information on the FT-86 that has been given for us to assume its using old technology?

Nothing. Quite the opposite actually. And if you're worried about how many ponies you got kickin' under the hood from the factory, then you're missing the entire point of this car's existance.

Not to nitpick, but OST you did say something about wanting the loudest exhaust you could find. (Please correct me if I'm wrong) That's a little showboaty to me for a car that doesn't have a lot of outright speed.

Ehhh, yeah...find that post, because I would never say I would want the 'loudest' exhaust.

I did state, in the mods thread, that I would probably get the dealership installed TRD sport exhaust, if its an option.

The only thing LOUD I would want on this car is 4 individual stacks gurgling their hatred at you. (they hate you, not me. =P Because ITB's are evil....a good evil.)

Balance? I thought your goal was to get this car skidding haphazardly sideways down a mountain pass

Anyway, the car can still have great braking, handling, etc. and be able to get out of it's own way. These aren't mutually exclusive qualities...

Whatever you intend to do with the car, another 50 -75 bhp isn't going to make it less fun to drive.

And ITB's work a lot better in a tuned plenum...

Bolded part: You should study up on drifting a bit more by that statement, especially when it comes to sliding your ass downhill. Balance is extremely important. (Overall car balance, not just one static attribute like weight distribution)

I understand more HP will not make it a less fun car to drive. The point I'm driving at, is, HP numbers should not / will not/ better not be the main focal point of this cars final product or Toyota will have completely missed the bullseye. Likewise, people wanting this car to be a high HP car so they can even mess with other high HP cars (like Camaro's, Mustangs, Corvettes) are wanting this car for the wrong reason. There are plenty of car's out there to do this with already. Toyota should keep their main focus on handling and driver-feel, above all else.
