Here's the thing on exhaust. Knowing SCCA and rules and stuff, go as light as you want (or that you can, depending on state rules and sound and all that) for an exhaust. Then, on the hangars, and/or the exhaust joints, weld on some lead/steel weights, or just on any of the pipes to bring it up to the 18lbs min weight.
Don't let exhaust weights and stuff get you wrapped around the axles on which exhaust to buy. Go with common sense, keeping in mind noise restrictions for your event site. --kC |

Yep, good advice. Was going to suggest just finding some weight to stick onto the exhaust to make it legal. Maybe some wheel weights with some heat resistant tape holding them on.

Why even do that? I'm thinking that you can just clamp on some weights to the Ti exhaust to make it legal now since material is open.

Remember lead melts at a pretty low temperature. I don't know if our exhaust gets to that temperature, but it might be better to weld or clamp on steel or stainless steel instead.

I saw someone on another site ask "what's to stop someone from adding weight" to a light exhaust to make it legal....like it would be a bad thing.
I already have a hard time caring how much other people's exhausts weigh to begin with, so *how* the exhaust makes weight is even less of a concern to me so long as It's not going to fall apart and leave parts on the course. |

Won't this turn into a protest nightmare with ballasting allowed (not that I am against ballasting) at nats? IE: you see someone running a titanium exhaust which would weigh under the limit, do you protest and get them to weigh all the ballasts?

Considering I weigh 310 lbs I don't think I need to worry about how light my exhaust is. The real weight reduction cheat is how light can I become!

What's the point of even buying it then? An FT-86 SpeedFactory V2 axleback or Hooker Blackheart single exit axleback are both cheaper, very similar design, and don't require you to block anything off.

The FT86SF V2 axleback will require the FT86SF midpipe. The V2 axleback does not bolt on to the OEM midpipe. Just FYI for future reference.
