They could have used the 2.5L 180HP tC engine. Just needs a little tweaking to bump it to 200 . or the Lexus IS 250 v6, that would have been nice.

I believe Toyota has some stakes in Subaru. So economically it only make to team up to build a car.

They could but they should and would not.

You ever drive that engine? It's a lazy engine.....

And its actually a CAMRY engine, not a tC engine

But im bias since my car has the fun as hell rev to 8400rpm 2zzge.....

Toyota wanted something Lightweight, Affordable, and NA.

Putting a JZ would have broken all three of those rules.

My understanding is that Subaru went to Toyota looking for a joint venture. They pitched several ideas and the one that stuck was for a two door sport coupe. Subaru thought that it would be a slam dunk, but the Toyota engineers determined the design and Subaru did most of the engineering work. The Subaru engineers had to cow-tow to the Toyota engineers and they resented that but had no choice since the money came from Toyota.

You are mistaken.

Toyota pitched the sports car and Subaru didn't want to do it. Toyota chopped up a Subaru Legacy and made a proof-of-concept mule and used it to convince Subaru.

I don't think so...

After Toyota had gain aprox. 17% of Fuji Heavy Industries, Subaru went to Toyota. They fought because Toyota wanted RWD and Subaru wanted AWD. Since Toyota provided the money, Subaru had to give in.
