There is no news.

Subaru/Scion isn't making any major changes. Sales continue to plumit. Car will probably be dead within the next couple years.

Next topic.

no news from subaru/toytota. no expectations. did get my hopes up when they were arguing about making a drop top twin but then that died along with all my other toybaru dreams.

Was at the dealership yesterday and asked the same question. Possibly in '17-'18 there will be a second gen, but we will see i guess

$70,000 for an engine to put into a $25,000 car.

No.

Amazing concept.

But no.

Last rumor I heard was Toyota might do "their own" 2nd gen, using a Toyota engine - and Subaru can figure out if they want to compete or not. But that was some high level of speculation. Toyota had said they plan to have 3 rwd sports cars - one priced under the Twins and one over. The more expensive one is the Supra they are developing with BMW. No official word on the cheap model planned. That said, I feel Toyota might be less confident they can move enough units to make two sports cars in the $20k's. Maybe they just replace the FRS with an MR2?

With the serious lack of updates year over year on the Twins, I wouldn't hold my breath for anything.

My buddy told me that Toyota and Subaru are going to compete, Subaru will keep building the chassis but they'll cram FA20DIT along with AWD straight from the WRX into the chassis, meanwhile Toyota will leverage their partnership with BMW to revive their I6, the next generation will have significantly different dynamics between the BRZ and FRS but we will be seeing ~300 horses at the crank in packages still under 3,000 lbs for sure.

I almost puked writing that.
