This is what I have heard from two other members. Their sales team is good, but the service department is lacking. But what the heck, give them a try, you might have a better experience...sometimes its just one tech or service adviser that is the problem.

I just had my 7500 mile service completed on my BRZ (first oil change). I noticed they marked the coolant as low and filled it up. I was surprised. Now it seems like others are encountering the same thing.

The good thing about coolant is that you can never put too much of it (mixed of course) in the reservoir, because it will just flow out if you have too much at any point, whether your motor is super warmed up or freezing cold

Just be sure you're never too LOW on it.

If a pressure test checked out ok and you are still looking coolant, that narrows the possibilities. The pressure test if done properly should rule out leaks due to hoses/connections etc. So that leaves either escaping through the top of the reservoir or escaping through something that requires more pressure than what the pressure test can reproduce. For example a crack in the head gasket or engine block, something that may be affected by heat or stress. Or am I wrong?

I imagine you guys that are loosing coolant have checked the oil or looked under the oil cap for milky residue?

Im at 3k ive added a little coolant here and there cuz its half way down and couple days later its back down. I think it burns it somewere

I haven't noticed being low and I just had my car in for 22.5K service and they didn't say anything or note anything about it being low...

For reference, when the car is warmed up, coolant level should be halfway between full and low. Mines reading at low-slightly below low. I have an appointment tomorrow with my dealership. Keep you guys posted

Damnit. They topped it off but didn't use Subaru Blue coolant. Hopefully it's an equivalent.

From what I could tell, coolant temp is getting to operating temp faster but I'm trying to rationalize this maybe someone else can chime in.

Ideal gas law tells us that PV=nRT (pressure, volume, n=moles, r=constant, temp)

Volume of the vessel holding the coolant stayed constant but the moles of coolant went up so in a closed state pressure increases.


Now I need a car guy to tell me if the coolant "Vessel" is actually closed. Does the car have an overflow hose or anything? Even something to relieve pressure?

The ''vessel'' is usually closed. Once a certain pressure is exceeded the radiator cap will open, thus opening the ''vessel'' but that should only happen during an overheating event.

Once the cap opens you get a pressure drop and, I assume, an immediate cooling effect due to lower pressure.

I wouldn't worry about a slight decrease in the time it takes to get to operating temp. I would make sure that your warranty covers the use of whatever coolant they put in. I would also do everything I could to try and find the source of the coolant leak.
