Gaming at the NorCal86 Summer Kickoff

One of the reasons for us doing these gatherings is for all of us, as owners, to get to know each other and make new friends. And, since this is the kick off the summer season, a time when it is enjoyable to drive with the windows down through the twisties, it can also get kinda hot outside. So, sometimes, we want to take refuge from the sun and still have fun.

That is when my wife and I like to do some gaming. There have been a couple of threads suggesting that we have a game night (here and here) but, thus far, not much has come to fruition. It may be because some are unfamiliar as to how much fun it can be to get together over a well designed game. Or maybe, you have never done it before and are interested but don't want to spend the money to try it. Well, never fear, I've got you covered.

Before I moved to California about six months ago I gave away over a hundred board games because I didn't want to try to move them all and because we wanted them to stay with all of the friends that we met through the games. Since then, we have started to amass another collection.

I will be bringing a selection of these with me to the NorCal86 Summer Kickoff to help as ice breakers for folks to get to know one another. However, I don't have room to bring them all. I would like to know which ones you are interested in playing or playing again. Below is a list of the games in the picture, any expansions that I have, and links to where you can learn more about them.

Legendary, Dark City xpac, Fantastic Four xpac, Paint the town Red xpac. BGG
Battue: Storm of the Horse Lords, Walls of Tarsos xpac BGG
Zombicide BGG
Abandon Ship BGG
Penny Arcade: Gamers vs. Evil BGG
Penny Arcade: Rumble in R'lyeh BGG
Munchkin Deluxe, Unnatural Axe xpac (and about 5 more xpacs that I can't remeber :-p) BGG TableTop
Munchkin Quest BGG
DC Deck-Building Game BGG
DC Heroes Unite BGG
Thunderstone Advance BGG
Android Netrunner BGG
King of Tokyo, Power up xpac BGG TableTop
Betrayal at House on the Hill BGG TableTop pt1 TableTop pt2
Monkey Lab BGG
Castle Panic BGG TableTop TableTop Extended
Smash Up, Awesome Level 9000 xpac, Science Fiction Double Feature xpac BGG TableTop
Tsuro of the Seas BGG TableTop
Space Alert BGG
Ascension: Rise of Vigil BGG
Monty Python Fluxx BGG
Unexploded Cow BGG
We didn't play test this at all BGG
and the perennial party favorite...
Cards Against Humanity, First Expansion, Second Expansion, Third Expansion, Fourth Expansion, 2012 Holiday xpac, 2013 Holiday xpac, 90's xpac. BGG

So, which ones should I bring?

I'm not really into board games, but you may want to focus on bringing the ones that are suitable for a larger number (5+) of people to play together at once. Munchkin Deluxe, We didn't play test this at all, Cards against humanity, maybe Zombicide.

I love King of Tokyo. Many I have heard, but not many have I played.

I got a few games I can bring into the mix also! Saboteurs. Resistance. Boss Monster. Sentinels of the Multiverse. Pandemic.

Buzznasa, do you play at a local game shop or anything?

Wow! That is quite the collection! My wife inherited quite a few of her "vintage" games, if there is any interest in some family friendly games.

Not really. My wife and I play table top games probably 4~5 times a week and one of those times is usually with friends that we invite over. When we were both teaching at a university in Florida we had a dedicated game night at work every Tuesday with a dozen or so people showing up.

I'm definitely bringing some of the games that are fairly fast and are 5+ players (Smash Up, King of Tokyo, Cards against Humanity, etc.) Just thought that some more experienced gamers would like to try some that I could bring along.

I see you are in Santa Clara. Check out Game Kastle on Coleman near the Costco! I play at the Fremont location all the time.

keep in mind that we are literally right off the bay so it can get very windy. Wouldnt want you to lose cards and other games pieces from it.

Nice collection BTW

I'll bring a nice aluminum Ladderball set. It's worked well on windy days in the past.
