Would you imagine, my CSR won't call me back. I'm beginning to think she doesn't like me very much.

My service manager is on the ball and already saw the Scion TSB, but can't act of course until Subaru issue theirs.

My local Subaru dealer did not have any TSB in their system. Called SOA, nothing. Can't get the chirp fixed until Subaru stamp their logo on basically this exact same Scion TSB and put it in their system.

Frustrating that it didn't release from both companies at the same time...

Only reason I can think of is that Toyota/Scion had more data on the pump since it's their baby, but I'm still surprised Subaru's response is not synced up with this.

So I called my dealer, the onversation went something like this:

Me: Hey, hows it going, this is Chuck, I stopped in for an oil change a couple days ago with the FR-S, and told you that there was a chirping noise coming from the engine. Remember me?

Him: Oh yeah! I remember you! How's it going?

Me: Well, the chirping is still there, but there seems to have been a new TSB put out for it, and I wanted to make sure you were aware of it.

Him: Oh really? When would you like to bring it in?

Me: well, first I thought you might want to take a look at the bulletin and make sure you have the parts I need, as it is a good bit out of my way.

Him: do you have the bulletin number?

Me: yep, just e-mailed it to you.

Him: Oh. Huh. I didnt even know this was out.

Me: well, I will let you go and order what you need. Call me back?

Him: Umm yeah, thanks for letting me know

I am still not sure whether to be upset with this call or not. I did find it pretty funny though.

Do you think the techs review every TSB the moment it is released? Or perhaps they'll look for any applicable ones when a situation presents itself...

Actually, what I got a chuckle out of was the Oh really, when do you want to bring it in? Without asking what it entailed or anything....

The repair procedure says "Replace the High Pressure Fuel Pump Assembly." Here are the old and new part numbers.

PREVIOUS PART# | CURRENT PART# | PART NAME
-------------------------------------------------------
SU003-00328 | Same | Pump Assembly, Fuel 1
SU003-00342 | Same | Pipe, Fuel Delivery, No. 2 1
SU003-00347 | Same | Gasket 1
SU003-00290 | Same | Gasket, Intake Manifold to Head, No. 1 2
SU003-00316 | Same | Gasket, Throttle Body 1

So replace the current part with... the same part. How does that fix anything?! If anything, the techs may torque stuff that was already in factory spec out of factory spec and potentially break other things. I'm hoping they are physically different parts carrying the same part number... can anyone confirm?

No, of course not. However, I believe the more appropriate question is "should they"? Stuff like this is what separates your average dime a dozen dealer from a really good one with excellent customer service.

This was already discussed earlier in the thread.

And you most likely will never get one from Toyota/Subaru.

The conclusion I'm drawing from this TSB is this is not really an issue. With everyone flailing their arms about this I decided to pay closer attention and confirmed today that my fuel pump produces the same chirping noise people have been posting on YouTube. Probably been doing it for a while but it never caught my attention because I was under the impression these little noises were part of the D-4S doing its standard cadence.

Also came across a discussion with people who switched to ethanol-free 93 octane fuel and immediately noticed the chirp went away. I just found out there are 3 BPs by my house so I will be doing that. The owner's manual even specifies to use 93 octane but 91, though not ideal, will suffice. So Toyota/Subaru may have already addressed this problem - implicitly - in the manual.
