Run time between pits for enduro?

Thinking of doing a last minute race and trying to figure out if I want to race the 86 or Miata. Basically wondering if I can go 1.5 hours between stops.

Car is a stock engine with a tune, intake, headers and catback.

My car has a similar set up. In NASA HPDE 2, Three 20-25minute sessions takes me to 1/4 tank. I always add fuel after my 3rd session to avoid the risk starvation. You might get an hour.

That was kind of my thinking. I'm considering adding a surge tank, but need to look and see what WRL will allow. I'm not going to race for a championship, but I'd like to do 2 WRL races a year.

People mod the NB tank slightly and it holds almost 14gal, decent power NA build and that'll be right around two hour stint times. Stock power and stock NB tank will probably be right there around two hours too.

86 too fat and too much power to see anything like that without going to a large-ish fuel cell.

You'll need a fuel cell and/or a fuel management strategy to make it 1.5 hours between stops in the 86, unless you're planning on classing down where fuel consumption may drop substantially.

Would encourage you to work with a tuner that can specifically help you achieve that long stint time.

Thanks. I did some more reading and it looks like long left handers are the issue. My home track doesn't really have that issue but the track this race is at has two long and and fast left handers in a 1.7 mile span.

WRL will let me run a larger tank. Is there a fuel cell option to get ~16.5 gallons (and half a gallon for a surge tank).

Sure is; fuel cells can get SUBSTANTIALLY larger.

Are you planning on deleting the stock tank, or adding to the stock tank?

If adding, then a fuel cell with hydramat feeding the engine, with the stock tank feeing the cell, can effectively replace the surge tank for you AND get you the extra fuel you need.

I think this should be obvious to most folks reading this, but just in case, you'll want to have full fire gear at all times in this car moving forward, as well as a full fire supression system. Multiple nozzles with at least 2 pointed toward the driver.

While the suggestion above is a decent idea, it's worth looking into WRL and other series you're interested in running.

NASA calls anything larger than .4gal a fuel cell instead of a surge tank, so you get to deal with fuel cell rules.

WRL calls anything larger than .5gal an aux tank, so you get to deal with fuel cell rules and have to size to fit into the max fuel capacity for the class. Stock BRZ tank is advertised as 13.2gal so you're kinda in an awkward spot sizing wise (3gal aux tank).

If I run GP2, it's 0.051*rwhp +7.5

Assuming 185-190rwhp, I get 16.9-17.2 gallons. I could, in theory, add 3.5-4 gallon surge tank and go from there.

After there, it's just how much we want to spend. We could spend a to on of time on the dyno to lean it out and ceramic coat pistons and etc.

I wish there was a series just like WRL, but one that just had mandatory pit stops X often that are minimum x minutes long so the race wasn't entirely won and lost in pits. If you can make one less stop, you win. Make it tight, so you can gain/lose some time in the pits, but not so that you need a god damn engineer to travel with the team.

This would be very ideal for amateurs that want to do a long enduro race with their friends, and not spend crazy amounts of money. I think it would also keep big money racers uninterested.

edit: and yes, I run full fire protection every time I get in the car.
