DRL & Headlights

Just curious if anyone has looked into getting the DRL to run at the same time as the Headlights? More for aesthetic purposes then anything

I'm going to be looking into this for the AUS version. We have the fog lights/DRLs down under the indicator, and they turn off once the headlights turn on. So frustrating. This is on the GT model mind you, not the GT-S.

The FRS DRL is the high beam ran at a lower voltage by a relay under the hood pulling the relay means ditching your high beams for us in the states. Im curious to see about maybe swapping pin locations in the fuse/relay box under the hood to disable the drl's. But I am now at work and will have to try it when i return home .

I find it interesting you can't turn them off. In my last DD (a Chevy) you could disable them by pressing the interior light shut-off button 5 times quickly. It wasn't documented, I discovered it by accident.

Unfortunately you had to do it every time you started the Astro. It may have had that option because the DRLs came on even when the car was in Park.

I believe it's just to keep the car the same for the NA market since they are legally required to be on at all times in Canada/some states?

Bump!

has anyone looked into getting the DRLs to run with the headlights? I'm no electrical expert but I'm wondering if its something as simple as grounding a wire?

Buy the wiring diagram and see for yourself. That'd be nice, but I don't think it'll be THAT easy.

To be clear though, aren't DRLs on ALL the time? DRL is the LED strip above the fogs on the (USDM) BRZ models, whereas the "boomerangs" are parking lights, from what I've read on the forum anyway.

The DRLs do not run at the same time as the headlights. As soon as the headlights are turned on the DRLs turn off. IMO the car would look nicer with the DRLs on at the same time as the headlights at night.

In that case it might be as simple as PULLING the signal wire that grounds them out. Might.

there's an option to turn off DRL's on a scan tool, but when we did it i lost high beams. they come on but at DRL brightness which is way less bright.

There's already a write up on this forum about how to remove the DRL resistor box. Search more people.
