To all long time owners of Q300: I've heard from various sources (forums) that the "glasspack style" insulation is burning off in time (in just a few months - faster if you track the car) and the sound is getting A LOT louder and "empty can" like. Is this true?

I have an catless UEL header and plan to keep stock OP and FP.

Thanks!

I have had one for 4 years, and 15k+ track miles. At one point it did noticeably get louder. However, with a catless uel, over pipe, catless/resonated mid-pipe and the invidia q300, I easily under any sound check at any track. And you can barely hear it at idle. (once it has warmed up.) Perfect street setup. IMO. Still sounds amazing.

This a 4k rev when I first got it.

With a stripped interior at the glen last year

I agree it gets louder but not empty. At least yet. 2.5 years so far.

I've had mine on since 2013 I'm at 80k mi. No track days but plenty of canyon runs. Sounds just as perfect as day one . I have had catless borla uel headers perrin overpipe invidia resonated front pipe and resonated q300 all since 2013 actually and still have the deep rumble. Loud wot and quiet cruising and warm idle.

Another data point...

Mine has 1000 miles on it. No other mods. Loud on cold start, quiet at warm idle. Great sound inside and out through the rev range. The volume seems to vary day to day, and I have no idea why, but it's never too loud.

Just installed the Q300 CB few days back: sounds much deeper, the "rumble" (UEL header) it's way more pronounced and overall it's not that much louder than with the stock CB. I guess that even if it gets a bit louder in time I'll be OK with it (I hope).
The only downside would be the weight, It's even heavier than stock (just a bit)!

So far I'm happy with my choice

UPDATE

After just one trackday the love story ended. Now, at ~2500 revs, it makes a very lame, empty tin can sound. The same thing happens at ~1700, but that is tolerable. I don't mind louder, but this is ruining the fun big time.

Very disappointing

Did you check all the connections on the exhaust and hangers?

Not after the trackday, no. Do you think there might be leaks that are causing this?

It's possible and worth checking. I remember after one of my track days, I was getting a metallic rasp in certain RPM ranges. Turns out the bolt for the hanger holding the midpipe had come loose. If I were you, I'd check all of the connections to make sure everything is snug and tight.

I tracked my FRS heavily since it was born in 2012 (OFT tune UEL headers one cat back then). I've seen Q 300's, Magnaflow, etc., mufflers and cats blow out from heavy tracking, usually for me at the end of the 2nd season.
With a built motor I got one season so -
Now I run one Vibrant cat, 2 resonators and 2 Vibrant racing mufflers .
This should give longevity to hard driven and boosted cars as well as stock.

How about the noise, is it much louder than Q300? Maybe you can compare (noise levels) with some other known CB like N1 or MXP RS.
What Vibrant products did you used? I see that there are quite a few model for each part...

Mine is a built blown motor, with a custom built exhaust system.
Your mufflers will depend on pipe diameter, HP, cats, boost, resonators etc.
Any decent race (not muffler) shop can figure out the combo for quiet or noise for your car.
Mine is super quiet when I drive like old people f#ck, but growls when I hit boost.

Any update on this? Still tinny or was the issue something else. Im looking at getting the cb but am worried of having the same issues years down the road.
