I don't get it. the vsc should have worked if she was driving normally or even slightly faster than the limit, which is already very fast.

^ ever try to pull out into traffic aggressively with the electronics on? Might as well sign your death warrant. nothing worse than that kicking in at an inopportune time. Not saying that's the case here, but who knows.

Most accidents like these are not caused by recklessness, its lack of experience. Hydroplaning for instance. It's almost impossible for even the most experienced drivers to overcome the initial reaction to mash the brakes when they feel the car lose control. As we know this is the worst thing you can do, but there is a difference between knowing what to do, and being able to apply it when necessary. Experience is the only thing that will teach you that.

Uh, the VSC in this car, in my opinion, is bull. I made a left hand turn (same turn I make every morning) into work and the back end slightly kicked out (was not doing this on purpose) and instead of making a 90 degree turn, I made about 110 degree turn and came to almost a dead stop. Luckily, the vehicle coming towards me saw my back end kick out and slowed down. Did not cause any accidents, but I did not need any coffee that morning afterwards. Point of the matter, accidents happen regardless of being careless or careful.

My father's SL55 AMG, with nannies on... try and get the back end loose and see if you have any luck. To me, that is a proper VSC system

Agreed. I drive with mine off now because I'd rather keep the car controllable and take my chances with my reflexes than let the car's computers try and recover from a slide. The most alarming thing to me is that I don't really know if the computers will come alive despite being turned off, since I haven't had my car on a closed course yet and have never done any sideways stuff beyond the occasional powerslide on the street. I know the computers kick in when they think you're getting wheel hop (despite being turned "off"): who knows what they'd make of a trailbraking-induced slide. Maybe some of the autox dudes know. I want to run my BRZ at the next local event, but I think the next one is this spring.

The VSC/traction control system on my dad's BMW is pretty good too-- you can definitely feel it working but it doesn't do anything too jarring to the car. It feels like it modulates the throttle rather than just cutting it like the BRZ and my old GTI seem to.

That video of the guy driving in the rain was pretty funny though: *slips rear wheels while accelerating* "SICK DRIFT DUDE!!!" If that dude was on stock tyres, he's nuts going that quickly in the rain, straight line or not-- you'd rear-end anyone with real tyres on their car who decided to stop. Powersliding around some deserted, open corner is one thing: speeding down a crowded, wet roads with tyres that don't grip at all in the wet is another.

I guess my experience with the vsc in the rain has been all positive.

in the dry, it does annoy me that it would kick in when the car is just doing its normal super controllable subtle slide

^^ agreed. I spent some time with a f430 on track in both the rain and dry and it really does a great job.

It gives you enough room to play around with the car but understands the point where you go oh fuck I'm gonna lose it, the 458 speciale has a new setting that is just made to slide it bit doesn't let it lose it self and spin out !!!

Seen this car in person. Before it was wrecked. This was the first turbo twin I saw. I met and talked to this guy before I even got mine. I would see him here and there . It's sad

This car should be in the Guinness book for attracting the most assholes. I've never seen so many internet "experts" hate a car so much.

Sad...
I always hate seeing stuff like this. These huge bills come when a person should be focused on getting healthy, and now they have financial worries.
