2020 model of Kenwood? I wouldn't wait for it, even 918 is "all the goodies you can think of for Android Auto", as long as you install and wire it correctly; and probably 919 if you have iPhone and really need CarPlay to be wireless.

So I noticed the ddx919ws comes with a harness that works with most Toyota head units which I think the BRZ uses... Has anyone installed one of the 919 units and used the provided harness? Wondering if I would need a different harness to use the factory usb ports and backup cam...It comes with a Toyota steering wheel control harness as well...

Thanks!

I installed the DDX919WS in my 2018 BRZ Limited a few months ago.

I couldn't get the factory dual USB to work (the blue & pink plugs under the AUX black box) so I replaced it with the dual unit from Beuler. Works perfectly now, plus it lights up in the same red as the interior lighting.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/BEULER-USBD...-/362568281982

Also, I couldn't get the factory rear view camera to work either. I tried everything, even the PAC Volt 39. So I replaced it with a $40 aftermarket camera from Amazon and now it works perfectly!

I used the custom harness from carboncarsystems.com. I'm not sure if other harnesses from Crutchfield or autoharnesshouse.com would work any better or differently.

Fm radio works just fine, as others said.

The only thing that wouldn't work is DVDs. You can wait to see if they release a 2020 for the states, but I doubt it. Why don't they? I have no clue.

FWIW, the reach on the 2019 RHD unit isn't far at all. I don't lean to hit any of the buttons on the right. In fact, the distance is more comfortable for my arm than if they were on the left side. Moreover, if you have steering controls for volume and skip then you may not need to touch the headunit very often.

The headunit is already a capacitive HD display with AppleCarplay and AndroidAuto, and they are bluetooth wireless, so I can't imagine what features they would add for 2020.

It was entirely plug and play with the factory harness, so it was a no brainer to install. I really couldn't be happier with the headunit.

Are this Kenwood line and the Pioneer AVH the only known 200mm headunits that’ll work seamlessly without the use of an ugly spacer kit?

Kenwood is a good brand but I never used it. I am using Alpine and no doubt, it is the best. Pioneer could also be a reliable option.

KENWOOD DDX917WS security code

Hi guys, was working on the 86 today and was removing the battery. Now I am getting this code for the KENWOOD unit. I bought the car second hand from a dealer and the car didn’t come with a card within the book of permits and car manual document book either. Asked the dealership and they do not know and check online for the passcode and there is nothing online that works!! It’s crazy that this can happen. The last resort is to give KENWOOD a call but I doubt they will give me a code because I don’t have a receipt of purchase for the head unit. I mean I have a massive receipt for my car but not sure that would be acceptable.

I suppose I am asking, does anyone on here have the code to unlock this head unit or has had this issue in the past so I can seek guidance in just unlock the head unit so I listen to music again?

Kind regards guys!

"Security code" seems like something the previous owner has set, and I really doubt Kenwood would be able to provide it for you.

I think your options are either
a) somehow ask the previous owner for the code (the dealership might be able to help with that)
or
b) find a way to factory reset the HU (check the owner's manual if it's possible to reset the HU, there might be a button on the back or something)

Wired my 919 last night & loving it. Daniel at Carbon said he would sell me the harness but stopped responding Wednesday and has gone silent.

For now using it without the camera but loving it!

Does anyone know which wire to tap for the speed sensor?

I looked at the wire harness and it seems it's pink/green at the ECU but I am not comfortable tapping it there.

Figured it & reverse out.

Houston we have backup camera!

I guess Carbon did me a favor blowing me off, I did 'er myself & saved $.

Pin 17 in remote controls connector, if I remember. The one distant from remote control wires.
