I totally agree! This OEM head unit seeming has a lot of limitations as I detailed over in the other thread on this forum "2020 86 Stereo Info".

I'm awaiting an update to Android Auto to see if that fixes the audio clipping.
- Though over Bluetooth my calls seem fine (acceptable)

- I've noticed some treble issues on various songs with the dash speakers.

Eventually I feel I'll replace the head unit with and aftermarket one that has a better screen contrast ratio, a better touch screen, and a AUX/RCA input (long live the 3.5mm headphone jack!).

I don't understand why you would pay $700+ for the OEM 2020 head unit when you can get aftermarket solutions like the Pioneer or GTA Car Kits for less.

This 100X. My pioneer looks factory and works great.

Also, not all Android Auto/Carplay are created equal. I'm willing to bet the aftermarket Pioneer unit has superior functionality.

Is the Pioneer AVH-ZL5150BT still available for purchase anywhere in the US, though? The ebay vendor appears to be sold out.

Even if the 2020 is 400 used, that's a good deal for an OEM 200mm flush fit android/CarPlay unit that's still likely made by pioneer.
The T10087 unit does not have Android/Apple car play. I have that unit in my car.

Well my pioneer 2550nex is working very well. Only complaints is no knob for volume, but it does have a button at least but not as easy as a knob. The second complaint is it is slower than stock on start up. Thought these things would bother me more, but you get used to it fast and the other benefits outweigh the negatives. I liked it so much I put one in my 04 WRX as well, but it was much cheaper because of no rear camera and other functions.

Guys we get it, you can buy aftermarket head units, but we're trying to figure out a simple stock solution to get apple carplay/android auto in pre-2020 cars. Not sure why its that hard to understand.

*waits for replies telling me how i can get an aftermarket head unit that is better than the stock one even though i don't care*

If you're replacing the headunit that came in your car with one that didn't, is it even stock anymore?

Just do your homework, there are plenty of complaints about stock HU and not likely enough reviews of it. Paying that much for a system with issues may turn out to be a bad deal. Where as aftermarket will have more reviews as the units are used by more people in all sorts of cars. Just saying in my experience and many others, the aftermarket HU blow the stock ones away. Think about it toyabaru needs to make the car affordable so investing in the HU will be minimal, just give it enough features to not turn people off. I am no audiophile either, but my 2016 did not have CarPlay , so I upgraded and honestly it is better in every way. Now if I had CarPlay already, I am not sure I would have spent $700, it would really depend on how the stock unit performed, of which I have no experience. I would start there and find someone with one and play with it.

I've noticed on the crutchfield site. bluetooth was what is always crossed out for features with a note saying (not supported with install kit). How does one retain blue tooth if they plan to upgrade to an aftermarket head unit?

Bluetooth on aftermarket units is almost always handled within the head unit. Even on cars that have external BT modules there is no need to wire the OEM BT module in. Our cars don’t have an external BT module, that’s why no install kits support them. All you need to do is use the microphone that comes with the aftermarket head unit. Some come with an internal mic only, some come with an external mic.

Does anyone who hates their 2020 OEM headhunt want to sell it yet? For all the hate there aren't any going up for sale, you would think these would be getting ripped out everywhere.
