What I've heard is that Costco gas could be gas from any manufacturer, Shell, Chevron, 76, whomever. They buy what ever is cheapest at the time and deliver that to the local pumps. So it could a mix of all of them.

Just curious..

Thanks

edit* I read the link in the post above.. sounds like the company specific additives are added into the trucks as they fill at the distribution facily. For example: "one measured squirt every 40 gallons".
The thing is, I've seen the same shipment not only go to us but also Chevron, Shell Etc. There is actually many instances where you'll get other gas station's shipments because they defer for whatever reason.
So you might get certain amounts at different gas stations just by chance

Just by this argument I feel as if every gas is pretty much the same when you come to the gas tank itself. Maybe when people are testing what the company wants you to test yes, there might be slight difference. But at the pump its all the same

Costco and Private Gas Companies can buy from whoever they like, which is generally the cheapest. Which means its generally BP/Arco or the cheapest in your town. However franchisee sites can only buy from their company even though they might buy/fill from other refineries.

TLDR: all gas is the same, each gas station often get filled with other stations gas

The only thing I've heard that makes sense is a station may sit with gas or may have water or buildup in the holding tanks.... Not by brand but station or length of time. ( premium gas from an out of the way station)

I have no problem with Costco 91 is I happened to be nearby. Problem is, it's always packed to the hilt. I personality will not wait in such a line for only amounting to a few dollars in savings. Got better things to do.

This debate has gone on with several forums all over the world. I go with Costco because it's now 20-25 cents cheaper than Shell which I normally filled up with. Not noticing any difference. Many people fill up their BMW's, Porsche's, Mercedes, and other higher priced vehicles and performance vehicles there as well. They follow the same federal regulations the other stations do. I really think people enjoy making a bigger deal out of it than it really is. The detergents in the gas is a lot of marketing by the different companies.

My 2 cents, go with the cheapest station within reason. I don't go to unknown name gas stations. Costco/Sam's are just fine. Chevron and Shell are great too. Just don't pay more than 5 cents more per gallon just because it has "Techron" or "Nitrogen Enriched" listed on it.

What does this mean?

Do you get 400 miles per tank vs 200?
