There are weight, hp, tire size restrictions in FD as well. My friend who drives for APEX'i, said their car can make 1400whp but they run it at about half capacity.

Here are the top 12 drivers from last year

Saito - 2JZ with nitrous 850whp - 1050whp (Hardly ever run this high)
Gitten - Used a S/Ced 5.0 last year with under 600whp - Now rocks a Roush 6.7 850hp
Millen - Hyundai Lambda V6 turbo - 600hp
Pawlek - Roush 6.7 850hp
Tuerck -
CBP built LSX - 550hp
Aasbo -
2.7 2AR-FE - 500hp
Yoshihara -
6.7 LS - 570HP
Gushi -
Cosworth CS600 (EJ25) w/Greddy turbo 540whp
Grunewald -
GM Performance LS7715hp
Powers -
Stock LS6500hp
Forseburg -
CORR Titan V8 - 700hp
Essa
- S54 Turbo (E46 M3 engine - 720hp

I follow the series each year. I'm aware of the rules for FD, you didn't have to make a list. I wasn't planning on getting all specific. From a general standpoint, the cars make 700-1000whp.

Millen's Genesis was making more than 600 last year. Believe they turned it up part way through the season. Aasbo's 2.7L 2ar, also made 700, not 500hp last year. Gushi's EJ25 FR-S was in the 600whp ballpark.

Who says that the 3UR isn't in the "Toyota" lineup?? Its a yota motor.... just sayn... And if that is the case, then The EJ isn't in the list for the FT-86...

You are right about Fredricks car, I was looking at the first batch of dynos (The main dyno FD teams use was next door to my shop in Gardena). His car made 722whp but your figures are still not lining up for the V8s. The vast majority of the V8's in FD are making between 550-750hp, with factory backed drivers having slightly more, which is 200-400 less then your figures. Example, Sams NASCAR powered alcohol fed 410ci Challenger makes under 800whp.

As far as a drift car build goes (Ive had my hand in 25+ FD builds so I can speak on this) Its not about power, its about the whole package / balance. Ive seen plenty of battles at Irwindale (high hp track) go down where underpowered cars beat the big dogs. Powers vs Gitten, Matt Field vs Saito, Gitten in his S13 vs Rhys GTO. Hariguchi screwed up everyones plans in his SR powered car for a year...

Have you seen the dealercast lexus cars? Two of them are rocking the 3ur and should be competing this season, one is supercharged with the TRD blower unit and sounds similar to what you are building, although somewhat scaled down.

hah i looked on wiki to see what the 3UR was and it is the 5.7L unit from the Tundra.

All i could recall before i checked was that the 1UR i think was the 4.6L variant and the 2UR is the 5.0L. I had completely forgotten about the tundra V8.

Functional desgin......nope.

pretty much all we need are these few welded pieces of metal. Who cares what this car was all about, but it's in the spotlight so let's use it.

I'm not one who cares for any of the V8's that everyone keeps shoving into the cars. I like the Turbo 4bangers and Inline6's. So, being accurate on V8 power figures is meh..I like to watch FD to see how many of the Non-V8's can take out the V8's. Hence why Gushi is my favorite driver in FD. And if he ever switched back to a V8, he still would be my favorite driver, I just would have to razz him a little bit.

I hear you, I am a fan of the tuned engines as well but its a power to cost thing. Most drivers cant afford the $20 a gallon race fuel, rebuilding engines every few events and exotic parts that are required to get those numbers out of a 4 cylinder.

Matt Powers was a fan favorite with his 2.4l turbo S14 - but he kept blowing motors and race fuel isnt cheap. He swapped to a stock LS1 (and got a lot of crap) but it hasnt changed his driving style one bit, it has lowered the cost of racing for him.

1000hp is not required to win events but makes it easier to cover mistakes. The driver they have selected is Otto Graven. He is South Africas top drifter. He is a power drifter, always using high HP v8's in his cars, with his last car being an 800hp LS powered 350z.

Oh yea for sure lowers the cost. I was planning on my next drift car to be a 240sx LS swapped. Don't have to worry about anything but tires essentially.

I wasn't fond of Otto's 350z "visually". Thought it was rather hideous with the widebody it was running. Not going to knock on it's color scheme since it was in his native countries colors. It was powerful, but it always seemed like he struggled a little with its setup. He still had a great debut season though when he came to FD. Look forward to seeing his journey in the FR-S.

I'm very excited to this this car sideways!!!

To me the more frs' that are out there competing the better. As for the whole v8 thing, I don't really care, it makes drifting interesting.
