No. I believe a dealership can't (won't) reprogram a unit. If they did, it would cost an arm and a leg. Srsmodule was about $60

That's what it sounded like when I called, lady said they would likely replace it.

I just picked the car up and it is the traction control and ABS lights that are on, is this the same as you?

That's usually indicating limp mode. That will likely be on until the air bag module is replaced. You can try cycling power (unhook battery, reconnect) to clear it. You may have a damaged speed sensor also. Could be something else altogether. What damage brought about this problem to start with?

Hit a deer. Drivers side airbag deployed, destroyed hood/front bumper, ac compressor, airbox, radiator, radiator support.

I just found this thread, maybe I will try this techstream solution: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68632

No damage to wheel area? Could have wire harness damage. Good chance your front air bag sensors were damaged too. Obviously replace anything that is damaged and get your srs module reset. If it were me I would replace the airbag and hook up the srs module at the same time, with the battery unhooked. Take NO chances with airbags. They can kill you during install and fail to protect you later. I wouldn't hook a fresh airbag up to that module before flashing in case it told the bag to go off again.

Fix the obvious stuff: bumper, radiator, airbag, reset srs, etc. Then see if your limp mode goes away. If not, then look for more problems. No sense trying to fix that until the obvious stuff is fixed or you may end up chasing your tail

The car has already been fixed by a shop, used all oem stuff, replaced airbag and all airbag sensors. Guy tells me the lights are on and his tech guy is unable to get them to go off and I have to check with the dealer. Tried the techstream method and they turned off initially but came back on within minutes.

Restraint parts replaced:
  • Airbag 98211CA051VH = $650
  • Clockspring 83196CA030 = $260
  • Control module 98221CA090 = $708
  • RT/LT front impact sensors 98231CA000 = $141 each
  • RT/LT seatbelt assembly 64621CA000VH = $300 each
  • LT buckle 646631CA010VH = $90

That was my assumption when the shop guy said 'SRS lights', I assumed what was lit is a result of SRS but from what I'm gathering there is also an airbag light which is not on so that's probably not my issue. The car is going into limp mode for some other reason. I'll need to pull the codes with torque and see if it gives me anything.

Indeed. Sounds like an unrelated issue. Since it looks like insurance is covering it... I suggest you take it back to the shop and tell them to fix it like they were supposed to do the first time. Also, ask insurance about "diminished value". Might make a few bucks there

Well what he and my adjuster agreed on is I bring it to the dealer (or wherever) to get it resolved and send the shop the bill and then it gets covered under the claim so there's no out of pocket for me. The shop owner did bring it somewhere but they were unable to figure it out--probably assuming it was airbag related.

About fighting for diminished value, a few reasons why I'm hesitant.
  1. I'm grateful they didn't total this car, I was pretty sure they were going to. It's 4.5 years old with 118k miles. Replacing the car with something with like condition and mileage can be done for close to what my claim was for. I'm a few months from having no car payments and was not looking forward to starting over. Though a brand new BRZ would have been nice.
  2. I work for my insurance company and do not want to ruffle feathers.
  3. I'm not tight on cash, it's not worth the effort to get a few extra bucks.
