Outlet link does not work, but I am avoiding Lenovo anyway. Bad experience in the past.

Looking around, if I move to 17" size, there are more (cheaper) options with 1600x900 resolution and up. Though I would prefer a 15" rig, in reality it is just as easy to throw a 17" in my backpack so I am willing to deal with a slightly bigger/heavier machine to save $300-400. I'd rather spend that dough on other stuff. This might work...

Thats not too bad cheap enough May work if your not expecting a lot of the computer

I3's are terribly slow and it will need a ram upgrade.

I am not expecting the most fastest thing in the world, but I want it to multi-task.

This is a good learning experience for me because I figured 4Gb of RAM was plenty. My old machine had only 2Gb. I gather that I won't be able to run Windows XP anymore. These newer operating systems require a bunch more RAM, huh?

My other concern is that even though it's got the resolution, it's still an integrated graphics card whereas my prior laptop had a standalone (albeit a very small one with only 512mb dedicated memory). Maybe I am expecting too much from the $500-600 price point and should bump up to something like this: http://www.xoticpc.com/asus-n56dpdh11-p-4979.html 15" screen, better resolution, 2Gb dedicated graphics. Question marks: AMD processor? Coming from Windows XP, is it an easier transition to 7 or 8?

Try to stick with windows 7, windows 8 is no bueno if your not ready for change and want something to just work.

If you want value for money I would look at dell, they seem to have the best deals for what you get, especially at dell outlet. Yea at minimum 4gb preferred is 8gb

PS never heard of xotic pc I'd always buy from a manufacturer or someone like amazon than a 3rd party retailer like them.

My current macbook has 2 GB too...I'm also running the circa 2009 OS...Mom wants to get me a new computer, I sent her a macbook pro build and an Alienware build. Macbook has 8 gigs ram, Alienware 16. For pretty much everything I do a mac makes more sense, plus I'll probably partition the drive and run windows XP or 7 for if/when I get a tune

Real talk though I'll probably actually need the partition for engineering programs...much more realistic than a tune

Yeah, I'd always buy from a trusted source, I just liked their site for comparing specs.

Looking at Dell outlet...

Didn't see Iron Man 3 this past weekend, instead I saw The Great Gatsby.

I liked it for what it was. It was visually well put together so the production was not lacking one bit at all. However, I probably wouldn't recommend that movie to all as some people might not be up for it.

Yeah, that is why I prefer a 15" setup. Just trying to find one that meets my specs & budget now...

Word is... Windows 8 will return to having a start menu. lol not a start screen.

I absolutely HATE windows 8 because seriously... who the fk hits their start menu that many times? My friend loves it though and this is only because he's very good with computers.

I also noticed that Win8 has a pretty damn steep learning curve for those who aren't tech savvy. :/

I absolutely do NOT like the tinted/blacked tail lights. I can hardly see those damn lights sometimes when they come on. Hate it. Absolutely hate it.
