Doubt they'd go that route, they have SUV's and crossovers already that serve the purposes.

I would wager a guess they're waiting on how the Supra sales turn out to determine what they want to do with the 86. Im also guessing that being a collaboration car, it might complicate things a little as they'd have to figure out if they want to take over the project strictly in house or keep collaborating (whether with Subaru again or with someone else).

Akio Toyoda wants a 3 sports car lineup and the Supra most likely cannot replace the 86 in its segment (lowest end Supra still likely costs a bunch more than GT trim 86.....might overlap with a TRD edition though)

I suppose if they go in house it'd be on the TNGA platform...which they only have 2 RWD variants currently...the ones used for the Lexus cars (likely off limits to mere Toyota badged models) and one used for the Toyota Crown (if they can scale that down to 86 size...).

This arrives next year, another TNGA crossover to go along with the completely new RAV4, also on a TNGA platform.

I was being somewhat sarcastic but in truth it is the way of the world right now. People are buying SUVs, cross-overs and pick-ups. Manufacturers are reacting to demand and they tend to make more money on those vehicles. Ford is reportedly ending production of its entire car line-up except the Mustang. Other manufacturers are dropping car models and adding SUVs.

That is just the way it is.

As far as the Supra goes, I suspect that the cheapest Supra, the 4 cylinder, will be close to twice as expensive as the 86.

I like the new taillights better than the old ones.

I agree... the circle LED is very iconic and at night will not be mistaken for another car. The new 17+ tail lights still look good, but are too common to every other car with LED straight line tail lights that Hyundai, Kia, Audi, pretty much every other manufacturer uses. Also don't know why they didn't make the bottom of the tail light light up on the new design. Looks like they copied valenti's but (literally) only half assed it.

There's a reason everyone who owns an old one puts on Valentis. I would, too if I didn't have a '17.
