the wiper control gets me every time i use it. but i don't drive the car all that much in the rain, so it really doesn't bother me all that much.

If so, what does reading an owners manual have to do with switching between cars and having to deal with similar controls that operate different from one to the other????

Some control the interval between sweeps

Some control the frequency of the sweep.

And there you have it.

I believe that's referred to as a, difference without a distinction.

I agree that my mind thinks "wider bar = more wipes" because you are increasing the size of it, thus increasing the number of wipes. Also, twisting forward also feels like "throttling up" for more wipes.

Pulling down to turn it on is also odd. When my right hand is at the 2 o clock position, and I want one wipe, having to go under the stalk and push up feels off. I'd prefer to just tap down.

I guess it depends on what other car you had.

I drove a Corolla for a long time so the stalk was what I knew.
I drove a Honda after that and I think it was the same.

Now I have a BMW and the wiper stalk functions opposite of the Japanese cars I drove.

I don't get bugged by it at all, its all just "oh this is the other way than in my last car" and then it just goes to memory.

Plus I don't have a delay setting, I have the rain sensing wipers (which doesn't really do its job sometimes.....) So my wiper functions are single, low, high, and auto (which just wipes whenever it thinks it should).

Besides I always just left the delay settings at the maximum so I never touched it (yes I do remember it increases the delay between wipes). It was always either too often (which I would just make it go low speed) or not often enough (which I just flicked the stalk for single wipe when I needed to).
