I actually did not have time, (working 72 hours a week) but I tried doing some test, and I think grounding the e-brake will not accomplish what I want, which is full functions of phone while driving. I think this is GPS based, so as soon as the car gets moving, the phone capabilities are limited, it doesn't matter if the e-brake is engaged.

The ground is on 10-pin power/speaker harness...

Pin 7 is Ground.

I just cut the grey wire on the 16-pin rear camera socket (i.e. where the e-brake lead is), and extended the wire from the stereo side connector to the above pin 7 and electrical taped the far side grey wire so as to not short out anything.

Good info! Does this allow you to play video from USB while moving?

It's about time I weighed in here...

The Beat-Sonic TVK-54 has 24-pin connectors. It will not work with the Fujitsu Ten nav HUs in 2012-up Impreza and Forester, and 2013 BRZ and FR-S.

  • 2010 Exiga
and a similar OEM Kenwood satnav, used in
  • Some 2008-2009 Legacy/Liberty/Outback outside North America
Although the back looks similar, the nav in 2010-2011 Legacy/Liberty/Outback does not have the parking brake signal on its 24-pin socket.
From the above posts, it sounds like the BRZ's nav does use the parking brake signal to disable video display while driving.

However, I seem to recall a 2012 Impreza owner with the Fujitsu Ten nav (model FW602US) saying that grounding the parking brake input did not unlock everything that is disabled while driving.

An easy way to verify is to pull up your brake lever just far enough to light the BRAKE light on the dash. Then have a passenger look for things that are still locked out while you're driving.

We theorized that the FW602US was also using the speed signal (VSS) to detect motion for the lock-out. A simple way to test that is to just unplug the 28-pin harness. You'll lose your microphone and aux input, but you should still be able to test everything else.

I've seen BRZs with model numbers FA601US (here) and FM601US (here). Does the FR-S have the same models?

The pin-out tables that xcelir8brz posted are for the 2012 Impreza Fujitsu Ten nav, model FW602US, from my NASIOC post here. (I'd appreciate credit and a link)

There are several differences in the BRZ and FR-S:
  • Model number (on front) is FA601US or FM601US (Impreza is FW602US)
  • FR-S and BRZ do have speaker amp remote turn-on (used for the amp for the door speakers)
  • FR-S Does not have power antenna control on the 10-pin harness. BRZ does.
  • Antenna control for the FR-S is on the antenna connector (blue wire on the aftermarket antenna adapter), for the antenna booster amplifier. BRZ does not have that pin on the antenna connector -- uses wire on the 10-pin harness.
Possibly more differences (I haven't seen Subaru's wiring diagrams yet). Does anybody have them they can send me?

And can anyone post pictures of the back, factory harnesses, and the label on the top?

Are full phone functions available while driving shorting the ground like this?

You've got credit! This helped me out as well and I apologize if this is a repost, just a bit easier for the audience to view.

I grounded the grey wire as mentioned earlier, the movies still played while the parking brake was down, however the screen turned blued as soon as went passed 3 mph. Did I miss something?
