Personally, I would stay away from light weight crank pulleys and tunes that raise the rev limit. Better safe than sorry. Get your water, I mean oil changed at 5k intervals too.

FWIW I sold my factory wheels to an older gentleman the other day with a hot lava FR-S.
His card had just over 108k miles on it - he drives it daily, and he said that he had zero issues with the car. He also does autocross with it fairly regularly as that is his hobby. Like it has been mentioned, keep up with the maintenance and I don't see why you should have any need to feel paranoid, or that it would give out before any other Toyota. You have to remember that people do a pretty good job of abusing these cars - they're easily modified and worked on by shade tree mechanics, so don't let that skew the presence of reality. |

Did the same with the 14 year old grandson last week (no pics though since the other grandson killed the phone battery chasing Pokeman) with the same results. He now has every 13 to 15 year old girl in the trailer park where the cottage is following him around though. Who says these cars don't attract females!?

Honda is the best at 0.4 percent, Toyota second best at 0.5%, Subaru unfortunately is not in the top 10 (or the bottom 10 as listed, either) |

NOTE: Not saying modding the engine causes failures just that there are more failures on them than stock!

It will really be interesting to see in 5 years or so when many of these truly DD stock cars start hitting 100k+. I myself would be happy to reach 150k on this car and would be ecstatic to hit 200k. I am on full bolt ons (headerback with intake) and will get a custom tune that is conservative more then likely. I autox occasionally but spend a lot of time on canyon roads. Based on how hot our cars run I think that be enough to cut it's life short but only time will tell. Kinda of wish I would have got an oil cooler a long time ago Your car will be the greatest case study imo. |

Edit: Just passed 50k miles, no powertrain issues aside from CEL related to dead coilpacks replaced myself in the driveway ~$110, ~10 hours of track time (one day it pulled double duty with two drivers), almost 2 seasons of autox. |

Interesting thread. I haven't read through the whole thing but I often wonder about it as well because this engine makes all kinds of weird noises:
1. crickets 2. sounds like it's going to die when I coast to a stop 3. switches between sounding like a diesel to a normal gas engine at idle 4. sometimes DI (?) clatters 5. not very smooth when accelerating Also, It uses more oil (2/3 qt per 4k miles) than even my 140,000mile Yaris did. And lately, it's been backfiring as well, under certain throttle conditions. Like someone early on in the thread said, I wish they had just thrown in a Toyota engine for the Scion version; a 3SGE would have been nice. They made a similar 200hp in the first gen Altezza RS200. |
