Suggestions for front pipe
Howdy forums,
Ive upgraded my cars exhaust but I still have the stock front pipe. I was looking for something to match up/be balanced with the other components. Current setup: PSR UEL Headers with overpipe (Rebranded SSI?) R400 Catback Still needing the cat, theres the option of the catted invidia frontpipe. But just shopping around in Australia Ive seen these cheaper options: Venom front pipe: <https://www.mrcperformance.com.au/venom-exhaust-works-toyota-86-subaru-brz-high-flow> TOG: <https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TOG-JDM-PRO-EXHAUST-CATTED-FRONT-PIPE-for-SUBARU-BRZ-TOYOTA-86-Scion-FRZ-/142482178006> Unknown Performance: <https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Unknown-Performance-200-Cell-Catted-Front-Pipe-Subaru-BRZ-Toyota-86-GT86-/132336152862> Ive been happy with the aggresive tone but currently on the highway the drone is a bit much. Dunno if any these would make it better/worse. I may install a jpipe later on if needed. Any suggestions? Sent from my LGM-V300S using Tapatalk |

I was going to suggest the JDL ultra quiet front pipe but you're in Australia, so shipping might kill that option. I'd give them a call and see if it's a viable option. Otherwise, just keep the stock front pipe. It's entirely necessary.

Do you think the stock front pipe is a bottleneck?

Depends on the horsepower you're making. If you just want headers and a tune, then no.

Cool. Ive currently got a canned tune with the uel headers. I do have a plan to get forced induction so ill wait until then and keep an eye out for a good deal.

if you have excessive drone now with the factory front pipe, going aftermarket-anything will not make it quieter or less droney..
Just FYI. |

Probably going to be an unpopular opinion, but I found the nameless OP/FP combo I installed to provide a far greater effect on HP (on the trusty 'ol butt dyno) than my P&L EL catted header. The stock header isn't *that* bad, but pulling out the front pipe you can see quickly how mangled Subaru made it for clearance.

It is all about resonance. I have replaced the stock front pipe with HKS dual resonated front pipe;straight through pipe with two resonators, no muffler, no cat. There is less drone with HKS HiPower Spec L catback now and about the same loudness. There is also more power.

So I've deduced Im probably not hitting emission requirements in Australia (numbers/discussions have always been vague) Im guessing my tune has disabled the sensor error.
-What are the cell ratings on the stock headers cat? -Would there be a 400 cell catted front pipe to meet requirements? Or is it necessary to have the cat in the header with the sensor? Im in need of suggestions to go forward. I don't want to buy another header, but I am open to the idea if necessary. |

I'm running the Gruppe-S uncatted header with the JDL Ultra Quiet (catted and resonated) Front Pipe into the stock mid-pipe and axle-back. OFT stage II+ tune.
No Drone whatsoever. I haven't heard it from outside but from the drivers seat it provides a nice growl. A mature sound solution. No ROAR. |
