That's normal protocol. You have to pay for their time if nothing is wrong, but if something is then warranty will cover their time spent on diag. I work for a dealership we always have to tell people that just in case there is no issues so our techs still get paid.

Do you really think it's wise to post this here, along with your location information?

Dealers read forums too, y'know.

Well, I haven't said nothing wrong. It's true that the previous owner abused this car.

So the technician's word isn't good enough?

Aren't you the same guy complaining about all the problems you're having with this car? Now you're saying the previous owner abused it, and you're SURPRISED?

I don't get it 🤔

Well, the warranty stays with the car, regardless of owner. It does not cover everything that goes wrong and will not cover things caused by abuse - regardless of who abused it.
I think if they tear into the transmission and find abuse, you will pay $275 for their services and have to pay to fix it somewhere.
Sometimes it's like the FRAM oil filter commercial - "pay me now or pay me later." In other words, a good inspection before purchase might have detected the problem.

if it was from the previous owner then it is quite odd that this issue wasn't noticed during the test drive...a bad trans wouldn't disappear and reappear unless OP did actually cause the damage

Perhaps, but why give the dealer an excuse to deny warranty coverage? No matter who "abused" the car, warranties don't cover "abuse". Why tell them it was abused? Especially if you're guessing that's the case.

I find that choice of word odd. Did they not already establish that something is "wrong"?

This might be the strangest post I have read on this board.

"Abuse" would not be covered by warranty. Normally, it is up to the Dealer/Toyota to prove that "Abuse" took place. If Toyota can prove that the transmission was "Abused" then they are off the hook for warranty.

You have an aftermarket warranty that will pay for pretty much anything unless it can be proven that it was "Abused". Aftermarket warranties are actually quite generous, since they are pretty much stealing money from people in the first place.

I am not sure why you are here trying to make sure that this problem is NOT covered by the insurance policy? You are declaring that the car was abused, and all the Toyota tech needs to do is cut and paste your words into his report in order to save Toyota a few $$$.

If it is not too late, can the mods make this thread go away?
