Totalled brz
Hey guys..I bought this sweet brz last november...I rolled the car on black ice...insurance will only pay back my loan plus some pocket change...about 600$. I really want to keep this car, even if it takes me years to repair it...I want to track it if I can buy it back. I have been looking for others but they just aren't cheap enough. The damage is all on the right side...trunk hood and all passenger side body paneling is damaged...its got a broken tie rod, frame damage and God know what else..but I feel like this the only way I can have this car...do I buy it back, forget about the brz and go drifting in my integra...yes its fwd...yes it drift....or a suggestion I haven't thought of...your thoughts?

This is why I bought replacement insurance for my new 2019. Its about $570 CAN a year and I figured that was worth it.
Good luck with it man. |

rolled a car on black ice....
Son, im going to be frank with you. But if you are still that reckless in youth, you shouldnt be making those sort of life choices with cars owned by banks I would have insurance pay out the loan on the car, buy it back and use the guts to swap into something. and buy yourself a daily, in cash, and while you are building your 'drift' car get to some schools for driving, whether a drift school, or autox class, hell even a rally school. accrue some experience in a safe place. before you head balls deep in a time and monetarily expensive sport. to be quite frank. if you can get a honda K motor to adapt to the Aisin trans and use the brz rear end. you could have a pretty fun set up. the boxer is more worth it to sell outright and mod something else. I feel. Hell my recommendation would be to ditch the gt86 platform and get an FC and do the K swap. and dont flip anymore cars. |

Let it go. Repairing cars are more expensive than you realize.

Buying back a car is usually extremely cheap.
Worth it IF you have a place to store it whilst you figure out how to do repairs. Just ask insurance company what the salvage value is. I think they get a price from a recycling yard. That amount would then be deducted from what they pay you. If you later decide to not repair the car, you can sell it's parts for more money than you've paid for the carcass...a win win for you. |

That is not the last BRZ on earth. Walk away and get another one. Pay for your mistakes and learn from them!

Where will you store it while you work?
What about the car you're driving during that work? You may need a donor car (another wreck, but on the other side); where will the donor car live? If you like to drive, drive. If you like to work on body panels, then go for it... |

if other cars are not cheap enough, buying this back and repairing it will not be cheap enough either. walk away from this car and if you want to go drifting buy a suitable car for that your integra does not drift.

Unless you are going to buckle down and just do it then large projects just don't make sense. Far to easy to think "I will get to that later".
For every project car that actually gets done there are a hundred sitting behind garages with a tarp over them providing a home for several generations of rodents. Been there. Will not do again.

Let it go. It won’t get better for sitting and fixing stuff that got totaled almost always costs more money than practically makes sense. Your problem, if I read your post right, is that you are already trying to operate in a game that requires more money than you have - a loan on a 2014 car?! Go improve your income and buy a clean car when you can afford it.

Ok. I let it go. This will be last post for a while...I'd love to come back and say I got another...but it's not in the cards. The integra is now the daily. I'll just save the money I would have spent on the loan. I didn't know you guys well but thanks for the advice...I appreciate your insight and experiences...take care guys!

I wouldn't touch that one. It's fixable (anything is I guess) but not worth it. Only buy it back for parts if you want it and have the space for it to sit around.
