I knew a girl in college who had gotten her dad's 4 year old Saab (expensive car at the time) as her car to drive. She didn't know how to use the clutch do she "just didn't". Car needed a full trans rebuild after about a year.

So for someone that's new to Manual, just drive normal and shift normal correct? Because the car is not made in the 80's?

Driving MT is probably one of the most over thought processes out there. Forget about double clutching, precision rev matching, shifting without clutch and all the fancy stuff and just drive for now. As long as you are not slipping the clutch excessively, lugging the engine or grinding the gears you are on the right track and all the 'cuz racecar stuff will come in it's own good time.

Well, at least this hasn't dissolved into another pointless auto vs manual thread.
...At least, not yet. |
