I had no problem with IE11 getting to touch.toyota.com, but I am on a touch device (Surface Book).

You might want to try the "non-touch" version of the website:

http://www.toyota.com/86/

With either one, when it redirected me to Southeast Toyota based on my geolocation I did get this (changing my zip code to another location outside Southeast the site works fine)..

Tcoat, once again I will disagree with you. I’m sure there have been times when things seemed like that but the truth is it’s far, FAR from what you describe. Toyota Nation has covered this many times as has other sites.

Here’s a New York Times article that gives a very good overview of it.

OK, I got it to work but now I do not understand the post.
What's "official"????
I thought it was a link to info on a limited edition or a performance package or something. However, all I'm seeing is the page for the monospec 86.

Thank you and I stand corrected. Apparently things have changed from the early 90s when it was all farmed out and I did not keep up.

I think you are both right. If you look at the TSBs for the 86 for Southeast Toyota you will see several that are the result of techs at the port not doing their jobs correctly.

From what I have been able to find much depends upon the port. Canada still appears the old "send it to a contractor" method and I could not find info on some of the smaller US ports but bet they do as well. Not every car that is landed goes through New York. It is a very difficult thing to research since there is not much info really.

From what I've read, (google "port installed Toyota options") all but two in the US are factory owned and run, Southeast and Texas if I remember correctly.

I know a large portion of west coast bound cars came through the Port of Longview in Washington state. My grandfather used to drive the cars off the boats as a long shoreman there.

All I really see there are a bunch more forums and no solid info (like the first article you linked) and have little trust in the "facts" of forums. My own recent inadvertent misinformation shows why.

LOL Oh and this is the first time you proved me wrong (well partially as it turns out) since the other was just my expression of an opinion and therefore could not be right nor wrong, just mine.

Asphalt colour is starting to grow on me!
Overall decent car... didnt expect much though since monospec.
Face lift DEFINITELY looks better in person.

Waiting on Subaru sales rep for price on 2017 BRZ before i make up my mind!

If you were referring to that upper "mouth guard" piece then I'm with you as well. I noticed all the photos of the car that I liked was when this wasn't as noticeable.

On that back-end shot--looks like someone tossed a good quantity of orange peel into the paint mix....
