DSM didn't have a great showing in movies or games so they tend to be forgotten!

Except for Fast and Furious...

Most people definitely don’t realize the Dodge Stealth, Talon, etc had Mitsubishi counterparts and vice versa.

It didn't last long enough in the movie to get a following!

And like the twins they had the Mitsu logo on everything no matter which model.

People wanted the Supra because if you put $10-15k into it in overnight parts from Japan then you will demolish all including a Ferrari. If you spend $10k on the Eclipse you don’t beat a RX7, and your floorboards could pop off at high speeds. The Jetta didn’t get a following either because you will just slightly lose to a S2000 with $100k into a built SR20 motor.

Actually the Eclipses had a great following until the next gen came out and even the second movie couldn’t save them. But that green Eclipse has been copied probably more than any other car from the movie. It was even given more screen time in the cult teenage classic Sex Drive seen racing the GTO here:

My first Japanese car that wasn't a rotted out 6+ year old beater (yes the 70s ones would rot through in under 5 years) in the late 70s was a 91 Talon TSi AWD. I was on a DSM fanboi on a forum before many here were born! It was copied more because you could get them dirt cheap for a while there.

@TylerLieberman any background on that one? I don't remember which.

Nice. Honestly, it was in the boat who were clueless about what DSM meant for the longest time (thought it was a name for a type of JDM car, or Mitsubishi offerings), and even longer was clueless about the Stealth and Talon being a part of it. Yea, it was probably the cheapest car from the movie, while being one of the most significant.

My parents rented a room out for a young guy when I was in my early teens. He had a silver Eclipse GS. I remember thinking that the Eclipse was a great looking car with a large variety of offerings like the RS/GS/GST/GSX. Too bad Mitsubishi abandoned the tuner community with the next gen (bloated 4cy NA and V6).

Not sure exactly on what you're asking.

What I do know is that with the first F&F movie, the cars that were selected were sort of the "luck of the draw". There were better cars out there, but the producers of the movie merely chose from the vehicles that showed up to the casting call. No 240s really showed up, just like many other cool tuner cars, because nobody really cared. My dad's Supra was chosen simply because it left an impression on Rob after a ride along, so that's the only reason that specific Supra was chosen, and not something more extreme like one of the 800+hp Supras that were out there.

As far as the value goes, it's anybody's guess really. I believe F&F played a bit of a role in the market demand for them, but I'm sure they would've held good value regardless. With Paul's passing, the Supra, R34, and franchise gained even more attention, in my opinion. Because of Paul's death, I wouldn't be surprised if the original Hero Supra could fetch $1 million plus without much difficulty.

But who knows.

I couldn't remember which cars were your dad's and if that was one of them. That was what I was asking. I thought he had two?

The Supra and blue Maxima from the first movie were his; the Silver R34 from the second movie was as well. He sold the Supra then picked up the R34 through Motorex back when they were still around. Sold after the movie wrapped up for a pretty penny and picked up a Diablo if memory serves me right.

fastandfuriousfacts.com is a site he manages now where he's compiled a bunch of info on the movies; since there's so much false/inaccurate nonsense floating around the internet these days.

I have sent a few people there in the past but lost the link! It is a great read for anybody interested in the reality behind the movie.

Edit: Oh wait that is a different site then he was on before. Very cool!
LOLOLOLOLOLOL
I think your dad and I would get along great! Pretty sure I have written that same last line about 5 times today alone!
