I asked the kid tech at subaru who went for brz training. He said the idle issue is normal and behaves that way to lower emission blah blah. If they give me a Kia for loaner when i get my car repaired for this issue, im gonna shove it their a##.
it happens to all FRS/BRZ regardless of transmission

What good is that going to do, if you are under 30K/3yo anyway?

Its a manufacture warranty case and claim, if they have an official fix.

Glad to see it's at least a known issue and not something they have no idea how to fix. I think many of us knew what we were getting into with first model year purchases, but it still sucks when stuff like this comes up.

I've never had a vehicle towed before, but can't he bend rotors or brake lines clamping the tires like that?

Is that how they normally do it? I use tie down straps similar to that every day and you can put some serious force down with those bad boys.

I was able to drive it today the brakes did feel a little weird that might of been me forgetting how firm it is (the loaner car had very mushy brakes) they couldn't find anything wrong with my car, so I picked it up went around the block then back because the CEL came up. Needless to say they gave me a loaner car again and will look further into it. I'll definitely have them double check I wouldn't want to have any brake failures just because Sunnyvale Towing

i think because this kind of problem can be repetitive, who know if it doesn't act up every 25k miles. For a lot of folks, 30k miles only means a year of driving. If you have extended warranty to 80k miles you have a much much better chance to claim warranty a few times until it's fixed correctly.

Dude, I have the same issue like everyone else in the "Warranty section". Bro, I would make sure they can recreate the codes and fix it properly. You are lucky to drive it for 700+miles. I got my car at 8 miles and the CEL and SL came on at 25mile! Had the car for one freaking day and now it is at the dealership.

ouch, 8 miles. that's insane I remember people talking about the first generation cars and some said since it's Subaru it should be fine... right.

our engines were a combination of two technologies Toyota+Subaru so something was bound to show up :/ sucks that we were the ones affected

Look at it this way, this doesn't necessarily point to a bad design, just bad parts. A bad design would result in every car being affected. Recalls/TSBs can affect any number of cars or other products, even those that have been in production for years. Stay optimistic!

It's Subaru Service Bulletin 02-132-12. I got it off this forum and saved it on my smartphone just in case.

Google "tsb 02-132-12" and it leads right back to ft86club.com and to techinfo.subaru.com/static/whatsNew.html with link to PDF (if you have access to their site):

02-132-12 - Technical Service Bulletin - DTCs Relating to the AVCS (Active Valve Control System) - Aug 21, 2012 - [View PDF]

False, not all....mine is at 4,000+ miles, no CEL...Dave-ROR's is at 8,000+ miles no CEL...matter of fact we've haven't had 1 BRZ or Impreza in for this concern...and we sell quite a few...

And it's not a top engine rebuild, it involves the Oil Control Valves (for the VVT), the Exhaust Cam Sprocket and the ECM. In some cases just the OCV's need to be replaced, in others only the Cam sprockets, and in a few, all of the parts need to be replaced.

It can affect Impreza's with the FB20 and all models with the FA20.
The TSB only applies if you have had a CEL.

The question was "could it happen to an AUTOMATIC as well." and i responded saying that it could happen to any regardless of transmission. and i have 6 people locally that had to have valves, cam shafts, sprockets, a timing actuator. so YES it can happen to ALL FRS/BRZ regardless of transmission. That is what was being said.
