@OP The only advice I can offer is don't buy a car without test driving it. If you can put a refundable deposit on a Focus RS and change your mind if you don't like how it drives, great. Just don't commit to buying it without getting behind the wheel first. Aside from that, research what you like, test drive them, and then buy the one which works best for you. After all if you fault an aftermarket tune sacrificing reliability the same logic must be applied to both engines. Unless you know of a dealership willing to flash a tune that will produce that kind of power. If you can get a reliable 300 horses out of an FA20DIT and meet smog emissions then that's kickass, but as far as I'm concerned I would not consider it more reliable than the current aftermarket supercharging options on the FA20 given how new Subaru is to DI engines (the D4-S system in the FA20 is nearly 10 years old at this point and early iterations were out in the 90's) and that in the US you'd be using an aftermarket tune to get there. After factoring in the cost of sourcing the engine and the custom fabwork just doesn't add up to me. I was wrong about how receptive the FA20DIT is to tuning. Feel free to link me to an engine that popped running an OTS CARB tune and I'll drop it completely. |

In my original post I mentioned if it were feasable in Cali. All this is in development and there are no answers... Yet.

Keep the car you have, pay it off, and drive it. Take the money you save by not swapping like-new cars every year or two and put that money in your IRA or some sort of investment vehicle.

I've had 16 vehicles in 17 years and 2 months of driving/motorcycling. I'd say you're falling behind there chief. I'm wrestling with this too though. Keep the twin once it's paid for or move on. I'm struggling with being responsible and keeping it for a change since not having a car payment would be nice. But so many crazy exciting vehicles are coming out over the next few years.
Me personally, given your situation I'd love the Porsche but I'd probably go Focus RS just to have a new vehicle. HOWEVER, I personally love Porsches. I've driven several, and by 2017 I'll be able to afford a GT3 all day long. They're magic. AND the seats in the Focus ST are absolutely crap (the base seats have no bolstering and the "Recaros" (Fakaros) have waaaay too much lumbar and it's nonadjustable) so I worry that they'll be crap in the RS too (unless they're using the Mustang Recaros that are actually Recaros - those are amazing).

It's nice to experience a lot of different vehicles. I have kept the BRZ and built it up while trying out some cheaper sub $10k cars and trucks on the side. I still have yet to own anything with more than 6 cylinders or a muscle car yet...
