the catalytic question with Nameless 's 3 inch downpipe
I finally managed to get my hands on a 3" over/front pipe combo by nameless performance, i was going to custom order one but i know the wait time with nameless is crazy and usually ends up being longer than expected .
I bought @FR-S Matt 's Downpipe which fit perfectly and he had no issues but the only thing that i was going to not opt for is a catalytic converter that it has. Im going to be boosted soon on e85 and hoping for decent number ( somewhere around the 4xxwhp mark) I know on boosted cars from the factory decating them and tuning makes a huge difference so the plan was to cut open the cat on the Nameless down pipe and either empty the catts or run a straight pipe in the location. Question is do you think this is going to be worth the hassle that i am going to go through or should i just leave it the way it is ? @DeliciousTuning Nameless Performance True 3" Downpipe by smsalsuwaidi, on Flickr Last edited by SmsAlSuwaidi; 01-21-2014 at 05:51 PM. |

Not to thread jack, but is that overpipe designed to fit the OEM header? Is it the factory location? It shouldn't be a problem making our downpipe in a 3" to fit that for you. Do you know what type of high flow cat that is?

It actually is designed to fit in OEM locations. The Nameless header has an optional 2.5" and 3" outlet as well. This is one of the few options that has a true 3" overpipe section out there with no fitment issues.

Removing a cat is only good for a few horsepower at most. Leave it alone, remove the cat in the header as that is where the restriction is - you're going turbo so that should be covered. Removing a 200 cell high flow cat won't get you much and it's not as big a restriction as you think...

i made over 400whp @15-16 psi on a small 51mm turbo with a 2.5" overpipe, 2.5" catted front pipe (200 cell magnaflow cat) and 2.5" exhaust. the tune still had some left on the table as the aem wasnt letting us control the exhaust cam timing att the time....point is i wouldnt touch it...put it on and enjoy!

I requested my order to be catless.
Nameless called me a few days later telling me it would be "Really loud" with their catless headers. Idk what's really loud, but if they called me to give me the heads up, I take it it's pretty loud lol. I told them to keep the cat on. |

For Turbo applications it is a big difference and can rob you HP gains. I've seen S2K's gain 50 WHP (from 650 WHP to 700 WHP) only by replacing a bendy exhaust with two mufflers and a Cat for a straight pipe. For N/A applications as they are currently being designed (basically bolt ons, no bigger cams, no higher compression, no 9K redline, etc.) then yes, it would not make sense to remove it. But @SmsAlSuwaidi is going turbo so for his particular case yes, go ahead and remove them. Loudness is not a big issue with turbo since it muffles the sound like nothing else.

s2000 motor is extremely sensitive to backpressure. I would be surprised to see that on these motors. |
