No more BRZ's at the the dealership

I stopped by the other day to pick up an oil filter, and was shocked to see a total of ONE BRZ (a yellow 2017 with Performance package) in the entire lot.

Has the sales gone south that bad? Or maybe they're just preparing for a new shipment of 2018? Either way, hope this isn't a bad sign of things to come.. Sad to see all the SUVs & wagons taking over the whole lot.

I think there are only a certain amount allotted to each dealer, depending on sales volume. I saw 3 at a large dealer here and none at the other smaller one.

Probably depends on the dealership. Since you are in Atlanta (as am I) I did a quick search on Subaru.com.

Kennesaw is showing 9, including 4 Series.Yellow
Classic Subaru is showing 4.
Gwinnett is showing 3.
Stivers is showing 2.

Looks like there are plenty to go around.

Simple supply and demand. There are not many people out there demanding these cars new anymore. If you want one you either ordered it the way you want it if you went new or you settled for many of the very reasonably priced used ones that are on the market.

Isn't this sort of backwards? Wouldn't it be a bigger concern if they had 20 of them just sitting there?
The 17 stock should start to dwindle soon since they indeed will make way for the 18s.

Bought a new car for the wife last night and the dealer here has three 16s and four 17s sitting on the lot. They are a small dealer and that is pretty much their whole allotment for each year so it tells a sadder story than if they had none.

Yea I thought that the fact there were 22 in stock in the Atlanta area alone was not a good thing given the low production numbers.

To be fair, pretty much no one buys a RWD sports car in the winter lol.

Ya I get that but the 16s on the lot are new and have been there since late 2015. This is their second winter sitting there.

Ouch. That said, without many good driving roads out that way, I'm not terribly surprised they don't sell well.

The lack of any sort of marketing doesn't help either. Pretty sure half the city doesn't even know we have a Subaru dealership much less that they sell the BRZ. The sales guy drives a BRZ but really doesn't know much about the FRS he kept calling mine a SFR. He did however do a great job of getting us what we wanted for the wife.
While we were shopping for the wife we swung by the Toyota dealer where I bought mine and they had nothing at all in stock. Not even a used one. The sales guys there said they sell any used ones as fast as they come in and there is actually a waiting list for good used.

I know when I was ordering the BRZ I ended up not getting the salesman asked if I wanted a sunroof..... I gave him a perplexed look.

I have never ordered a car and this BRZ was to be the first. I gave up after 11 weeks and no update other than VON. I was able to work a deal for a PP car for $500 more than I agreed to pay for the car I ordered from the same dealer so I took it.

Where I was going with the above - A friend just ordered BMW M240 for his wife and they had tracking down to a science. She could see where the ship is in the ocean that is bringing her car to her. Granted that car is a bit more money but at the same time the tech used to do it isn't pricey or even complicated. Does make for a happier customer though.

Totally agree with this^^^^^ A lot of non-car people didn't even know Subaru made the BRZ when they'd ask me what I was driving. Subaru has a lot of car mags and websites giving the BRZ rave reviews; however, they're failing to convert people into enthusiast by not doing more to reach out to those non-car peeps.

Maybe its different in Toronto then elsewhere took me months before i even found a dealership in Toronto that had one for me to test drive, 2 of the dealerships i called told me they don't let people test drive cause the cars are sold as soon as they come in. The dealership i ended up purchasing my series yellow from had 5 2017's on the lot but all were sold already and when i had gone in to pick mine up the lot was cleared out. Still seems super popular in Toronto at least.

It's their least selling car next to the STI.
It sits in the longer on the lot than any other Subaru.
It has the least amount of options and accessories. (dealer profit)
No sense in having many.
