I'd love to see the 670whp fa20 car these were testing in for a 12hr endurance race. They are probably just hyping the material they are made of, not this actual gearset.

I'd love to see an FA20 make 670 whp for 12 minutes, much less 12 hours.

I would have said 12 seconds, as a 1/4 mile joke, but 670 is certainly not a 12 second number. Not close enough to make a joke out of.

I don't think the gearset is installed yet. At least from what I can tell on Ryan's facebook page.

This was the email I received from PAR trying to get more info on that endurance car.

"Hi,
Subaru BRZ and Toyota 86 run the exact same transmission.
There were 2 cars that got up in the ranking, Wing Hin and GTO from what I can see on the results.
There was a guy in the USA that purchased a set from our Poland dealer a while ago and entered into the Texas race last year. Can’t remember his name, I will try and find it because I am sure somebody sent me a facebook link. I don’t get too involved in the car side and what they do with the sets."

And here are the Wing Hin 86 cars. I am assuming he's talking about these 86's. I tried contacting Wing Hin, but didn't get much of a response. They seem to be TRD dealers, so they might not even admit to having these. I'm trying to do a little more research.. We'll see what I come up with.

Regardless, I've had friends order gear sets from them in the past for various cars and they have had nothing but good things to say, so I guess myself and a few other will try these out for ourselves.

Ok I think I read his email wrong. I think he was referring to two different cars when I had asked how much power it could hold and what testing it had. I think the gears were used in a pretty stock FRS as far as power mods. I found an article about one of the two wing hin cars and it lists it as a trd gear box

I wish someone would come out with something cheaper and easier than swapping in a Supra trans, if these gears were everything they said they were I would buy a set.

They are in, he posted a video on his FB page back in early August after it was set up and running.

Jacks Transmission has said they are working on a Helical gearset which should offer the same torque rating as the PAR gears (740FT/LBS).

Those straight cut 1-4 and helical 5/6 gearsets for the sti's really are the best of both worlds.

They took your transmission and you've gotten absolutely nothing out of it? i just shot them an email a short while ago, can you go into more detail?

Few quick notes.

1.) Whining about straight cut gear ... whine ... is just that. Whining. Deal with it, or don't. People don't whine about their rattle-can 3 inch downpipe and exhaust, or the vacuum-cleaner-esque howl of the turbo.

2.) Helical gears are theoretically stronger, but only provided that the transmission can handle the associated thrust loading. I'd love to find that as soon as the gears can hold the torque, the snap rings and thrust washers start to fail. That would be poetic justice in its purest form.

3.) TL : DR, massive power demands compromises. If you're unwilling to compromise, you're unwilling to make massive power.

We talked to them about doing a gear set and they said they were very interested. We shipped them a spare trans we had and waited. They received a par set and there were a bunch of issues with fitment, specs, etc. they said they were working with someone else to offer a helical set for us to try but it's been so long we are putting a face plated tko600 in my car. I don't want to be a tester for a gear set that has zero warranty and still costs me more (at their cost) than my fully built tremec. I just can't wait anymore
