That's why you're supposed to check it when it's warm, which I do, but it shouldn't be at the low mark when cold regardless.

Btw this is what my hose looks like. I've cleaned it off at least 3-4 times since i've owned the car.

Save yourself the headache it will fluctuate between low and full. I had my car pressure checked and double checked at the dealer, if it goes below low then have it checked if not forget it!! It's like the idle dip and the crickets!! There's no fixing it!! I completely understand it shouldn't be at low, that means it's low duh but this car functions that way.

BTW- not interested in starting a war but for the sake of others later on reading this as a guide. Check coolant when cold, when hot the level may be over the full mark.

The waterproof tape is Teflon tape, used in plumbing.

Thanks just installed some telfon tape. I noticed my coolant is almost completely gone from the reservoir. Not sure if I should fill it up or take it to the dealer.

make sure the tape locked up the holes between the hose and the reservoir.

After topping mine off once I was fine. I think it burped out air from the first factory fill. If you've already refilled in the past then you may want to go.

I haven't refilled yet. For about a year it stayed at the low line and I just realized it's below that now.

I'll probably just refill it and send my oil in for lab results. If it doesn't drop or any trace of coolant in the oil then i'll stay away from the dealer.

What is this 'fix'? The guy edited his post and nothing is shown.

I believe it was teflon tape in an attempt to seal off the hose at the top of the reservoir, theory being that the water is evaporating out of the reservoir tank.

In any case I don't think I've seen anyone with proof that the coolant is leaking out in a dangerous way, a top off every couple of months isn't the end of the world, you should be checking it roughly monthly anyway.

If you seal the area around the hose to tank interface, are you also sealing the breather hole at the top of the tank?

Not sure, personally just let it evaporate, top off with water and give it a flush as it gets dirty or at the recommended 60k.

His post still shows up in the quotes on this page. It was quoted twice. It's basically wrapping the hose with some teflon tape.
