Another weekend at Thunderhill
Eating spec miatas so fast I had no time to chew. BMW M3 V8s were a fun lot to race with depending on the driver.
Slower than the race-rubber Lotus Elise out there. Faster than all the mustangs. 225/45/17 on OZ Allegerita HLT 17x7.5. Tons of grip wet and dry provided I kept the pressure ~33-36psi. Stock suspension but some coilovers couldn't hurt in the future... so.much.fun |

What kind of times are you able to run with your setup? What kind of tires are you using?

Thanks. I guess I'm going to have to get used to slower lap times when I get my BRZ. I was running 2:07 over the top and 2:05 with the bypass in my Evo X. Oh well, we all know this car isn't about fast lap times.

There's a lot of room for improvement in my driving for sure! I'm sure an instructor could break 2:08 in my car

Hmmm, I don't know. 15 seconds is an eternity. I watched your video. I can't tell what your entry/exit speeds are and I can't hear how much of the tires you are using, but your line looks pretty good. I guess I'll find out soon enough for myself. Hope to see you at the track sometime!

Perfect timing, I will be heading to THill in about two weeks. I'll be studying your video a few times to refamiliarize myself as I haven't been there for about 3-4 years.

Just ran T-Hill with the bypass this past weekend and got down to a 2:13.2x with only Carbotech XP10/XP8 pads and fluid. Everything else completely stock. I haven't driven T-Hill since 2007 so I think 2:11's are possible with more seat time.
Spec Miatas and the other cars you mentioned are all faster with quick drivers. I had trouble keeping up, but most of the time lost is due to the Prius tires of course. |

I ran over the top at Thunderhill 2:18 bone stock car......the brakes faded pretty good, but other than that it ran great!!
They had a Scion FRS race in the 25 hour!!!! I talked to the team that ran it...stoptech brakes, 245 wide 18" wheels tires all around.... They ran a low 2:07 during the race if I remember right.... Since Randy Probst ran 1:51 at Laguna in a bone stock BRZ that translates to about 2:11 over the top at Thunderhill..... With some real grip tires, proper brake pads and shocks with a touch more rebound damping the car would be a monster on track....but remember I am picky since I am used to race cars only on track for years |

Using the "big three" tracks in norcal time deltas tend to trend along certain lines.... Laguna is the "shortest" lap time....lets say the 1:51 that Randy put down in the BRZ for motortrend..... most cars will be 10 seconds slower at Sears Point...or about 2:01, which seems plausible......and another 10 seconds at Thunderhill would be about 2:11.... The Scion racer in the 25 race a 2:07..... I have turned 2:18 in my bone stock FRS.....do I think Pro racer Randy Probst could do a 2:11 in my car....probably.... Remember a top time for spec miata is around 2:07
Some cars perform slighty better than the 10 second delta, but its generally quite close.....a 997 GT3 cup car.....is around 1:26's at Laguna, 1:36's at Sears and around 1:46 at Thunderhill..... |
