you could always finish off the break in down here. vary your rpm/gear/speed down to the meet and only go 4/10ths -6/10ths on the sisters keeping your engine rpm in check

That's why this run is appealing to me as well, an excuse to get the new engine out on some twisties and see how it really feels. I plan on going to my first autocross with the new engine, but I want it completely broken in. I havent been autocrossing in about a year...

Since it's next week it'll also give me some time to sort out my gas pedal travel, which is pretty annoying for spirited driving atm.

Maybe some NTX ae86 guys will be interested.
If you decide to come, Friday all us DFW guys are making the drive down together. You're more than welcome to join. Gonna take the scenic route and hit up Lime Creek Rd for a warm up run.

No lies people, I might not be able to make this meet. If that is the case, I'll try to get one of the local DFW guys to bring all the parts down. Any volunteers if it comes to that? That being said, any locals with a cable I might be able to use in case mine is faulty?

Thanks for the offer. I panicked and guess I should have waited until things were more well known. Luckily I had an older version of EcuTek on my desktop and I was able to update my tune instead of it being stuck in limbo. So God willing and the creek don't rise, I'll be there.

Dustin...you had me worried there for a bit!!!

TEWwild & I did a recon run of Twisted Sisters Saturday. Spoke to the folks at the Bent Rim Grill and they were very nice and are expecting us this next weekend. The owner of the Apple Store is on vacation and I've sent him an email to see if he will open up next Sat. at 8AM.

This is the Apple Store....

Tim & I discussed logistics in Medina. We feel it would be better for some "Early Bird" folks to begin showing up at 8AM. And, instead of participants signing up for a group ahead of time; we'd queue a lead car and have people pull up behind it and when 12-15 cars are lined up, that group will depart and another lead car would then get in position. More of a natural flow, first come, first served. We figure the first group would leave at 8:30 and the last about 9:30. In other words, people need to plan to arrive in Medina between 8 and 9 AM. They'd have 30 minutes to check out the store, use the facilities, buy something if they want to and then line up in the next available group. Groups would depart every 10-15 minutes or so. Anyway, that's our plan and we intend to have a policy of "rigid flexibility" on it at this point!

Here is a street view....

See how the cars on the right have "backed in" parked across from the Apple Store? (That's us.) That is the side of the street everyone needs to park on. Cars can park all the way down to that close highway sign on the right if need be and up the street a ways in the opposite direction as well. Just don't block any driveway. When coming from the direction the camera faces, we usually go down a bit and do a u-turn and then back in. On the left side of the street is possibly where we'll line up in 12-15 car groups (one group at a time) off the right shoulder of the road.

At this time of the morning traffic is pretty light. In the afternoon, it will be busy. Lots of motorcycles come through this area.

I have a roll chart in the works that might better explain what we have in mind. I'm waiting to hear back from the Apple Store owner to confirm whether or not they can open early and then I'll post it up. I think they will accommodate us. I always buy something there to support their business. They have nice clean restrooms and a friendly staff. The apple pie and turnovers are tasty and my favorite is the apple ice cream. They have coffee, waters, drinks, etc. At lunchtime, they have burgers and stuff.

When we left the Apple Store at about 9:45 we snagged quite a few slow downs...more than usual anyway. Bottom line, earlier departure is gonna be better it would seem.

This is what we encountered Saturday on 337 headed for Leakey right before the spot where TX MotoFoto usually sets up....

9 mph just ruins it totally. The Toyota belongs to the bike rider and had it's flashers on. We pulled over when we came upon a small clearing on the opposite side of the road and waited over 5 minutes. Finished the twisties but, biker was still out ahead of us towards the end of the twisties run and at that point we had a spot we could pass. With a large group, it's not always available to pass or pull over if there is not enough room and we have to watch out for tall dry grass when we do pull off the road. First time we've ever encountered this type of thing though.

On the way home, this pic was taken right out of Medina headed back to Bandera...

There were 4 more motorcycles up around the bend in front of these and two running behind me all the way to Bandera. Made for a boring drive especially around some of the curves and hills. This is what we try to avoid!!! A large group of bikes stretched out is impossible to pass.

2nd Annual FT86 Day - Twisted Sisters Roll Chart

See attached one page .pdf if you want to save or print all this...
(Still waiting to hear back from the Apple Store...they may be ignoring email until their vacation is over!)

__________________________________

Second Annual Texas FT86 DayTWISTED SISTERS RUN and Meet Saturday, 9 August 2014
Plan to Arrive between 8:00 - 8:30 AM. The Apple Store / Patio Cafe / Gift Shop, 14024 State Hwy 16 North, Medina, Texas 78055. Park across the street from the Store and use caution to back in (park) to make it easier to pull out on to the street. The Apple Store has delicious apple pies, turnovers, refreshments and a self-serve Apple Ice Cream machine. Clean Restrooms. (Stop by after lunch for some desert!)

"TENTATIVE" DEPARTURE TIMES FROM THE APPLE STORE. 10-15 minutes prior to a departure time, a lead car driver will pull their vehicle out to the right side of the street (off the road) past the Apple Store (orange cones will mark the spot) and cars participating in that group will line up behind the lead car. 12 - 15 cars per group. Faster drivers to the front - less aggressive drivers to the rear. First Come / First Served. After a group leaves, the next team driver will pull out to allow the next group to form. Groups will depart every 10-15 minutes. Times are approx. and may vary. (Participants can drive solo or form their own group if desired.)

Departure times: 8:30 8:45 9:00 9:15 9:30
LEAD DRIVERS: Tim, Alex, Steve, John (and one other person - to be determined, if available.)

Roll Chart Recommendation: Fill up with gas somewhere (e.g. Boerne, Bandera, Kerrville) before arriving in Medina as it will save some time once we begin the Twisted Sisters Run. Note: Cell phone service will be limited past Medina. Only AT&T works in Leakey.Use FRS/GMRS Channel 5 -0 if you bring a walkie-talkie.
Google Map: http://goo.gl/maps/KsvEl
1) FROM THE APPLE STORE - Head North on Hwy 16 a short distance and take a left on to Ranch Road 337. Follow the signs to Leakey, Texas. There will be twisties just before getting to Leakey. Stay in your lane! Use caution in case there is a need to slow down suddenly. Always watch out for bicycle riders!

2) PIT STOP IN LEAKEY - 10 Minutes - Stretch/Restroom Break and Last Chance for gas for the next 96 miles. Take a left on Hwy 83. Go down to either the STRIPES or Global ("The Buck Stop") Convenience Stores. There is more room to park & more pumps at the STRIPES. Both are on the left side of the road.

3) FROM LEAKEY, GO NORTH (back towards 337) ON HWY 83 (about 1 mile past town) AND TAKE A LEFT ON Ranch Road 336. There are numerous cattle guards on this stretch. The 4th cattle guard is a bit rough. Be alert for cars braking in front of you as it is possible to run up behind slow drivers. Some turns are unexpectedly sharp so...be careful...stay in your lane! Ranch Road 336 ends at Hwy 41.

4) TAKE A LEFT ON TEXAS 41 AND HEAD WEST ABOUT 13 MILES. Relax, crank the music and enjoy the scenery. Watch for a highway intersection sign for Ranch Road 335.
5) TURN LEFT ON TO RANCH ROAD 335. May be some loose gravel at the beginning of this run. You may see some rocks on the road in a few spots. Watch out for motorcycles. Be alert for turns after rising over hills. There are some spots you might bottom out on if going too fast. Be Safe...this sister is a roller coaster ride!
6) BRIEF 10-15 MINUTE BREAK ON THE NUECES RIVER BRIDGE. We will stop midway for a brief stretch break and photo shoot opportunity of cars lined up on the Nueces River Bridge area. Please stay off the roadway! 15 minutes max. If you see the next group arriving, your group should be leaving.
7) AT THE END OF RANCH ROAD 335 - TAKE A LEFT ON HWY 55 TO CAMP WOOD. (From this point on, speed limits may be radar enforced in some spots all the way back to Leakey.)

8) FROM HWY 55 IN CAMP WOOD TAKE A LEFT ON TO RR 337.Shortly after the second and final set of twisties on this stretch, watch for a right turn in to the Frio Canyon Motorcycle Stop/Bent Rim Grill (657 Ranch Road 337 W) for lunch and the 2nd Annual Texas FT86 Day Meet. (20 miles to Leakey from Camp Wood.)

9) Second Annual Texas FT86 DayMeet @ Frio Canyon Motorcycle Stop / Bent Rim Grill - MENU .pdf.
Vendor drawings will occur after lunch!!! Custom ordered T-shirts will be handed out at the Bent Rim.
