In recent years, I've become disenchanted with Formula One. I always start watching, but then start to trail away from it.

I will say that there is something to be said about actually being there. Anyone going to an F1 race this year?

I'll be in Italy during the time of the Italian GP and am considering it. I imagined that with your spiffy Fiat 500 you'd be hardcore tifosi.

If you're already going to be there, then definitely do it up! The atmosphere would be amazing!

I've been to the Montreal GP several times, but would love to attend one in Europe. Montreal has a great vibe, but a Euro GP... no beating that experience. Keep us posted.

I'm trying to put together a trip to Austin for COTA, but it's looking at over $1,000 per person when all is said and done. For just a weekend, it's really hard to justify considering I'm spending almost the same to spend 10 days between New York and Boston later in the spring.

I lived in Europe for years and drove to some GP's. You're right, they're special. The closest I've experienced in North America is the Toyota IndyCar GP at Long Beach that's in the early stages of attracting F1 back. I don't know where Long Beach will get the $3M Ecclestone fee. Maybe he'll cut them a deal now that he's an LA county landowner.

I haven't been following Long Beach, but that seems way too cheap.

I was fortunate enough to see F1 a few times during it's (and MS) zenith V10 days in the late '90s/early 2000s--WHAT a spectacle...

You're right. That was the first number I recall a month ago but today read that it's $28M for Ecclestone alone, another $125M-$200M for FIA track upgrades.

Seems less likely and the IndyCar contract goes through 2015 anyway so the city should be grateful they get IndyCar (standing start this year), United Sports Car and Pro-Celebrity and turn a profit thanks to Toyota title sponsorship.

Yeah, I posted it a little bit ago. Thought it was funny since Red Bull used their "filming days" to make this as an excuse to run their new car some more, and the final product is nothing but CGI. Lol best of luck on Sunday!

In for discussion!

I've been watching F1 since the mid 90's and have been to Montreal and Austin. Thinking about going to Austin again this year as well.

Just as an aside, any rally fans can grab some great coverage at this site:

Wish there was something like this for F1 or Moto GP.

Just read the new Quali regs. Meh. Should make us get another lap in Q3 but not super exciting.
