Car and Driver 10 Best

We should be used to it by now but along comes some more recognition. I just got my January Car and Driver and they listed the 10 Best Cars for 2013 (in C&D sequence)

Audi A6 3.0T/S6/A7 3.0T/S7
BMW 3-Series Sedan
Ford Focus/Focus ST
Ford Mustang G/Boss 302
Honda Accord
Honda Fit
Mazda MX-5 Miata
Porsche Boxster/Boxster
Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ (They now use the word Subion for both)
Volkswqgen Golf/GTI

And the beat goes on!!

Ooooh, some of the regulars I see on there... Now let's see what they had to say about our car...

Sorry about that. They said:

For the first time since 1997 when the Ford Contour and Mercury Mystique shared, one car sold under two different marques has claimed a single 10 Best award. The differences between the Scion FR-S and Subru BRZ are some exterior colors and trim, and the BRZ comes standard with a navigation unit, equating to a $1310 premium over the $24,995 FR-S. Critics of the Scibaru are quick to point out its unrefined and buzzy shortcomings. We hear the buzzing, and even a little interior rattling, as the backing track to a constant reminder that chassis development took the lead during this car's gestation. Electrically assisted steering that actually communicates and a chassis balance that ebbs and flows between understeer and oversteer with brake or throttle applications are hallmarks of its personality. It is a lot like the Porsche Boxster in that regard, but for about half the cost. With only 200 horses and a 6400-rpm torque peak, there's no power cushion to adjust the mid-corner pace. The Subion challenges drivers to maintain speed and when apex velocity is maxed out, so is the driver-satisfaction gauge. Entertainment, value and execution of the intended purpose are the 10 Best commandments. This one (okay, two) nails 'em all.

In a separate window they comment: The Scibaru lives to get loose, but it's grip is unexpectedly impressive.

I like that their list has so many genuinely fun-to-drive cars on it:

3-Series
Focus ST
Mustang GT/Boss
Miata
Boxster
FR-S/BRZ
GTI

Nice. 7/10 is not bad, and you could even make arguments for the S6 and Fit.

So basically, one hell of a car, that is.

I love how they understand and reveal the car's strengths, which many people may not understand... Like the preservation of speed (momentum) through corners, which yields maximum satisfaction for its driver. And also how they admit to the car's imperfection of rattles and squeaks, and of the manufacturer(s) importance placed on making the car a precise and tightly woven machine to command.

A proper sports car, I'd say.

Thank you for sharing, @whaap.

Very cool to see the BRZ on the same list as my current car (GTI).

It definitely belongs there.

Glad to see the 86 twins on there, the fit too.
Accord has got to go tho, there are better options for the money nowadays, sad to say.
