I'd really like to know who all these people saying the Op's car is worth more than 25k (they are Americans so they must mean USD) without 1- knowing the full list of mods he has on the car (i.e. I have a sc'd 2013 with around 25k of mods but my car isn't worth more than 28k and that's Canadian $ so 21k us). Just because OP put 20k in his 21k value car does not make it a 30k+ car.

I realize that NSX values are going up, but even IF this car had a clean title and no fixed body damage it still wouldn't be worth $40k.

120k miles, rebuilt engine (suspect as hell) and repaint? $25k would be a reasonable amount.

-$15,000 for salvage title.
-$10,000 for rebuilt/replaced engine.
-$10,000 for repairs and repaint.

Here's my advice, drive it. You might fall in love with, or you might realize it's not the car for you. Older cars have creaks and rattles everywhere and that's just part of their personality, but it might not be your taste.

Also, figure out your insurance situation. You are going to need to insure it through a collector's insurance company so you can have set value coverage. Regular insurance will value this car at 20k, but with set value, you can set it at a fair market value and have it's value reevaluated every year. Other than that, I can't say much. If it is financially viable, then it's not a bad choice. Life is far too fleeting to get stuck on the same page. But I suppose filing for bankruptcy is pretty crappy too, so take a long look at your finances.

I second that, a buddy of mine got an NSX from a police auction and was in surprisingly good condition no damage. He got rear ended by some idiot in a mini van (5-10mph). The car was totaled instantly. Any slight ding to the frame and the thing is toast (according to insurance). He did profit from the insurance buy back though.

The NSX will appreciate, yes. But if used as a DD the value increase will drop dramatically with every single mile driven. This is an often overlooked aspect of a collector car vs a driven car. To gain or even maintain value you have to severely limit the use you actually get out of the car.

Wow, nevermind. Keep the $15k and the BRZ in that case and don't even think twice about it.

I bought a 1991 MR2 Turbo about 8 years ago and had asked the owner about its history. That crackhead lied and said it's got a clean title and has never been in any accidents. Took it home and showed it to my good friend. He took a quick glance inside and noticed the shift knob right away and says, "THIS WAS MY UNCLE'S CAR THAT WAS T-BONED!" It didn't last very long in my hands as I sold it a few weeks later for a third of what I bought it for.

What I'm trying to say is, knowing that it's been hit, it WILL bother the FUCK out of you every time you either: see, sit, touch, or do something to the car.
