I've been waiting to get jumped for having zero sympathy. Is something wrong?

Eh, circumstances like these don't leave much room for sympathy. Of course anyone dying at a young age like that is tragic, but when the driver chooses to put his foot down, he chooses to make the decision to risk his well being and possibly the wellbeing of other innocent drivers. Let it be a lesson to anyone who thinks excessive speed on public roads is a good idea. You not only endanger yourself, but anybody else who may have the misfortune of being near you when you decide to throw safety and logic out the window.

Not having sympathy is one thing, and its rather rational from my point of view. Having respect for human life is another, and it's sad that this kid got the worst punishment possible for a childish mistake that so many people make frequently.

And for you Trom many of your comments here have been relatively gentle compared to normal!

Fatal car crash, brought to you by Ashley Furniture!

Back on topic, I think he would have more of a chance of surviving had he been securely bolted in among all those airbags, even if the back of the car was gone.

You can't assume that. He might have been well on his way to a terrible life that would have sucked.

Once when I was in television I covered a single car accident involving a brand new Mustang being driven by a college student. The car had gone off the road and ended up rolling over gently onto its side in the grass. By the time I got there it was back on its wheels. It had a big dent in the door and was a little scraped up on that side, but otherwise the car was in amazingly good shape. I'm pretty sure you could have driven it home.

You could have, but not the driver. That big dent in the door was caused by his head. When the car tilted gently over, it dumped him face first into the ground, where his head somehow ended up under the car.

Because he wasn't wearing a seat belt.

What a shame. Poor kid won't even get to learn his lesson. We all make mistakes at some point in life that could have been fatal, very few don't (lord knows I have on more than one occasion). Hopefully the other driver takes this as a hard lesson learned.

Yes the guy made poor, and dangerous decisions that ultimately lead to his death. It is still very sad. There are many people out there that have driven irresponsibly, this person might have just been going through a phase. Not to condone his actions, or say that it wasn't his fault, but we might be too quick to judge someone in these situations.

At the end of the day, street racing is illegal, and very dangerous. Let's keep this in mind so we can have fewer accidents and deaths on the road. Stay safe everyone.

Probably not. They will blame the city, truck driver, police, parents, education, aliens or bigfoot but they will not feel responsible at all and will probably be at it again next week!

I have no idea how I managed to live long enough to realize I was being a moron back when I was young.

Meh, best result possible short of both of them dieing. I have been known to engage in such selfish behavior and I tell my family and friends not to say how tragic it was if I kill myself doing it. Say I was being an asshole, because that's exactly what I was doing.
