The time attack build by Rob

Rob's Time Attack Build

Hey everyone, my name is Rob and I am from Ontario, Canada. I've been into racing for quite some time now, but have never went full out on a car before. I previously owned a 2004 Mazda RX8 which I tracked often, tho never competed with.

This past summer I picked up my 2013 Scion FRS, I immediately started with mods. Basically all I wanted was to compete in a somewhat local time attack event called CSCS (cscs.ca), so I ordered wheels, tires, rotors, pads, lines, coilovers, a catback exhaust and went right to work.

I slaughtered my old times that I was setting with my RX8, and in competition at CSCS, I ended up running a 1:23.4 at Toronto Motorsports Park. A personal best for me, and in my opinion, quite quick for a 200bhp car with limited mods.

At the end of the season, all I wanted was to go faster (obviously). So I decided on a F.I. setup. I am going turbo, with the use of water/meth. Thanks to Sasha Anis for helping me with this build, and Pat Cyr which will be doing my water/meth setup, this is going to be an absolutely epic season.

Now that you know why I am building the car, here is my current progress. Every chance I get, I will update with pictures and videos. Some parts have no arrived yet, and few are not ordered, but most have been decided on and it WILL be completed by mid May. Most parts have been chosen because of class rules.

The car is quite dirty in some of the pictures while stored, I don't want to work on an ice cube so it will be washed as soon as it's pulled out for completed pictures!

And on to the build, more detailed shots will be taken from now on as I did not plan on doing a build thread!

HSD coilovers in

Semi gloss Gram Lights 57xtremes

Bumper cut up for better airflow

Painted up reinforcement for the little visibility in front bumper opening

Momo Lesmo One installed

Rear seats gone

Panels deleted

More panels gone

Prepping for turbo + rad install

Another view of the front end

Reverse light relocation, red tail lights, still have to polish and clearcoat the muffler, as well as a bit more filing

AEM meth kit picked up

Finally back with some updates. While waiting for a stack of parts to arrive for my build, me and the close group I race with started our team officially. Now known as Unnatural Aspiration Motorsports. Check out our Facebook page for updates on my cars track performance, competition standings, and faster updates all together. Find it at our website www.unnaturalaspiration.ca

So over the past couple months I've gotten my turbo kit, Aem water/meth kit and a Bully stage 4 clutch kit. The water/meth kit is being documented with a video log to show people how its done if you don't already know. Il update with that as soon as possible. Here is a picture of the parts stack. Some parts are already in the car.

Stay tuned for more!

I like the plans for the car so far man. Can you explain more or give better insight to the reverse light situation? What was your reason for removing the little center strip?

That was the only thing I did not like about the rear. It was either rocket bunny rear or cut, polish and clearcoat. It's purely cosmetic. Reverse lights are currently being mounted into the drivers side reinforcement access panel. If that's what it's called. The removable cap that you would put a tow hook through. Il put pictures up once the muffler is polished and the lights are properly mounted.

Looking forward to your turbo build!

How would the Direzza ZII tires fair for normal street driving? I'm not too concerned with road noise as I don't drive the car everyday but I've heard they make odd sounds. I imagine with a semi-gutted car you aren't too concerned about street manners lol.

It's actually just came in! The build is starting and should be completed soon!

As for the Direzza ZII's, there is just a little bit of noise. I tracked them last season with interior in and the noise can easily be overpowered by a little bit of radio

They stick extremely well too!
