They are, I came from running Hankook RS3s

I wanted something quieter/better in the rain and more comfortable.

I think the OP will enjoy the extreme contacts especially for the price, the grip is also much better than the stock tires.

Do you drive the car year round?
If so, do you intend to use dedicated summer/winter wheels and tires, or are you looking for one tire for both?
Any chance the car will see track usage?

I'm in Baltimore and I got rid of the stock tires in less than 1,000 miles because I felt their cold-wet and cold-dry performance was unsatisfactory for me, personally (I got the car in February, and the loss of grip at near-freezing wet temps and below-freezing dry temps was unacceptable - although that is not the tire's fault as it was not made for such a purpose!) For me, the Pilot Spot A/S 3+ was the way to go because I drive the car year-round, and (as I am sure you are aware) we get hit with a longer season of cold but relatively minor snow/ice (usually-2017-18 has been an exception) - the tire does outstanding in bitter dry cold and near-freezing wet where summer-only tires may lose a dangerous amount of performance, and very well in light snow (deep snow is a no-no). The unknown factor there might be I've observed we might get an inch or two of snow while out in Frederick you guys get hammered to a degree where an all-season may not be sufficient for the worse storms (a little further west and it's definitely a tossup).

(If you are going to run winter wheels, IMO you might as well buy a true performance summer tire. The A/S 3+ is arguably the pinnacle of UHP all-seasons. It's compromise to warm/dry performance is smaller than ever before, and it is the polar opposite of the huge performance toll that all-seasons entailed not too many years earlier. However, it is still a compromise, and the A/S 3+ is not going to provide the same performance as say the Pilot Sport 4S, S04 Pole Position, Extreme Contact Sport, or Indy 500. Further, a dedicated winter tire will obviously provide superior performance to an all-season, and if you are driving out towards Western MD a lot in winter, this might make more sense from a safety perspective.)

Looks are subjective but I think the Firestone FireHawk Indy 500 is the best looking summer street tire right now (although the BF Goodrich KDW 2 was formally in that spot) - for semi-streetable, the RE71r is mean looking, but I don't think I would daily drive on it! :p

I looked into this tire (also known as the Bridgestone RE003 outside the US) and while its dry cornering performance is impressive, it does not compare to the max performance summers under braking, especially in the wet. For literally a few bucks more per tire the Hankooks are a safer bet.

And yes the tread pattern on the Firestone looks awesome.

stay with stock first so you don't crush it.

But ya more sidewall & softer rubber will make the ride really comfy, but you wont be able to feel how the tires slowly lost their grip as well.

Softer sidewalls break away traction more progressively, a stiffer one will be great, then sliding with less warning.

I just got a set of BF Goodrich G-force sport comp 2 tires, and I really like them. Medium amount of road noise, stiffer sidewall, and I have yet to make them squeal in a turn. I DD my car, so tire wear is a big deal, and they have a decent wear rating. I had Dunlop DZ102s previously and felt that they wore alot more quickly than I expected.

But the biggest factor you need to consider is the primary reason you use the car. And, frankly, the Primacys are not awful tires and you might as well save some money and wear those out first.

I just put a set of these on the car and, so far, I'm EXTREMELY impressed. Quiet, and very sticky..

215/45ZR-17 HANKOOK VENTUS V12
EVO2 XL

Got what I think is a screaming deal on them from TireRack last month.. $404 including shipping, less $100 rebate from Hankook (which I actually got!).. soo, new set of tires for $300 plus local mounting and balancing. Couldn't be happier.

Do yourself a favor and start looking for a winter wheel/tire setup....you daily drive in Fredneck so you're going to need them pretty soon. When the temps start to drop, summer tires are worthless, no matter how good they look.

Hankook RS4 is a better DD street Tires compare to the re71r, as they’ll last longer and very good in the rain too.
