Talking Subaru’s Side Of The FT-86

Hey guys, over at Topspeed.com got new info about Subaru’s version.

http://www.topspeed.com/cars/car-new...6-ar95238.html

Quote:
As we’re sure you know by know, Toyota and Subaru are working on a new sports car that each will get a chance to work into their own unique version. The Toyota version has been talked about frequently and will be called the FT-86. As for Subaru’s version, little has been revealed. Of course, that doesn’t mean we can’t get awesome renderings of the new sportscar.

The car will likely sit on a revised Legacy platform with the Impreza’s rear suspension. Under the hood will be Subaru’s horizontal 2.0-liter four-cylinder motor with around 250 horsepower. That is a decent sized power increase over the Toyota version, due to modifications and turbocharging.

The design of the car is far more aggressive than its Toyota brother. The car will have gold rims and a big hood scoop. Besides that though, there shouldn’t a whole lot of change in the bodywork. The only real difference will be the grilles, bumpers, and wheels.

The car will likely be out around 2013 for a price of $25,000. Due to cost reasons, the car won’t feature Subaru’s all-wheel drive system.

Thanks... but those news are old news. I'm frequent Subaru site view and heard that news since the spy vid and FT-86 was shown in TAS.

But again, not sure what's true and rumor. I'll just wait til Subaru actually show it in the next Auto Show

The thing I don't get is u can get an awd wrx for around 25 but we keep seeing it isn't gonna happen with this car because of cost. Is there that much money going into other parts of the car that it would make it that much more for awd? I know it would increase weight and I like the idea of rwd And I know that's what this car is all about I just don't see how an awd would be that much more in cost especially since they are going off of parts from existing awd subies. Just a thought....

I totally agree... but other view, if they want to use Toyota's FT86's chassis layout, they gotta modify the engine mount and other stuff to make it awd (need to put the engine forward). This itself gonna cost Subaru more. BUT if they do that, they have other parts they can use from other Subaru cars: STI 6sp tranny, Toyota/Yamaha designed new 2L H4, WRX/STI turbo kits, Brembo STI brakes, & etc. It's all there. Just the chassis part is main problem.

It either will not have 250hp or it's going to cost more than 25K. This would mean that it has 50 more hp than the Toyota but cost only 2k more?

the badly photoshopped scoop doesnt sit right.. thats just a FT86 with chopped wheels, bumper and scoop.. frankly some of the chops done by members of this forum look way better and more realistic than those pics.. just more hype building news

and the base model subaru will be same as the base model toyota.
both will have turbocharged versions on a higher spec.. both will cost the same (roughly)

I cant wait to see the actual concept vehicle to compare to the toyota. I'd be supprised if it even looks anything like those renderings at all but who knows. I like the white one the best

When's the next big car show that we could maybe expect to see an official Subaru concept?
