Here are actual numbers from this morning, through the router. If I plug directly into the wall jack, I can usually get right at 1gig both ways.

What the shit? I want that...

Yeah, it's nice. EPB is the Electric Power Board here in Chattanooga, TN. Several years back they got approval to build a smart network to better monitor the electricity usage, outages, etc., and one of the side effects is that they were able to throw fiber optic services to the homes in their service area: phone, TV, and internet. As they make more money on the services, they increase speeds for the same price. About a year ago they bumped everyone who was on 50 Mbps up to 100 Mbps at no charge, and if you were on 100 Mbps (which I was) they bumped you to 1 Gbps at no charge. Pretty sweet!

I love that they do NOT do sales, special offers, etc. The price they list is the price you pay, the price your neighbor pays, every month, all the time. none of that 3-6-12 month crap that Comcast and others do and then you have to threaten to leave them when they double your monthly bill. Also, on the rare occasions that you need to call for tech support, the people who answer are local, and if you get disconnected and have to call back in, you end up getting the same person you were just talking to almost every time, so you don't have to repeat all the problem details again.
