I just looked at his tires last Wednesday and they looked fine, they weren't even down to the wear bars or anything. I didn't look at the insides of the fronts though, but the rears looked fine.

I find it hard to believe that his tires would already need to be replaced after only 20k. They are 240 treadwear Continentals. Is this even possible? The dealership claims that he would be "lucky" to get 25k out of these tires. What is going on here?
Maybe go to another dealer for a second opinion?

I'm actually surprised he got 20k out of 240 treadwear. If he constantly drives over rough roads, I wouldn't be surprised if his alignment were off.

By them saying "a lot," it could just be in relation to the rest of the tread. It could be 4/6/6, meaning inner shoulder is at 4/32 and the middle and outer shoulder is at 6.

Or other times I'll drink some coffee or tea and suddenly feel very tired, but also super jittery at the same time.

For whatever reason, I never get the boring old benefit of caffeine just keeping me awake.
I quit energy drinks cold turkey and started using my fruit infusion water bottle. So far, it's been working. I have almost as much energy as I would with an energy drink, but I'm sleeping better at night. Downside is since I'm drinking a lot of water throughout the day now, I'll have to excuse myself from customers to use the restroom. LOL.

So far, strawberries offer the best water taste and energy. Cuties (I forget what these fruits are called) taste the worse and don't offer me as much energy.

Caffeine is weird, some energy drinks don't work on me, and others will keep me up for hours and then bam, walking dead for me.

Yeah, he has another vehicle he may be able to use for the road trip, so I suggested that.

That way he doesn't have the pressure and stress of getting everything sorted before his road trip. And, he'll be able to shop around for what tires he wants, instead of getting the $260/each tires the dealer is trying to sell him.

Which bottle did you get again? I was thinking of trying that myself.

Ok, here are the tires that they were recommending be replaced at 20k. The dealership said they didn't rotate them at 10k because the car is AWD.

They look like they have a bit more life in them to me, but what do I know? The inside edge does look to be wearing slightly faster, but nothing overly extreme. But then again, not an expert in tire wear patterns.

Yeah, looks like 3/4/3 to me. Doesn't make sense why they didn't rotate the tires since even tire tread all around is really important in AWD cars.

Looks like they're almost to the wear bars. I think it would be wise for your friend to be looking for fresh tires soon.

According to this VW forum post, dealers aren't instructed to rotate on the R http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...-tire-rotation

Yeah, I think he could get away with the trip to LA, but he's looking for new ones. Currently looking into the Bridgestone Potenza S04.

Weird, very weird.

Yeah, I'm sure he can still get away with a trip to LA unless his alignment is still off.

Anyone in/near San Jose around/able to help me out sometime this week in the evening, or maybe Sunday with installing my tow hook relocator for my license plate?

I'm getting it in the mail tomorrow and from looking at the instructions I'll need a socket wrench and then anti-seize or similar to install, and I have neither of those at the moment.

I can pay in boba or something like that .

I'm scared my vanity plates are jacked up too! I also ordered 6 characters, JCRZC6, but the lady who worked the counter seemed to have a hard time... it's been almost 3 months and I haven't received anything.. I went in on 02/10/2017 :\
