Mounting used tires... suggestions

I have a set of new wheels that I want to put on my car, but would like to mount the tires on my current wheels (conti extremecontact sport) onto them. The tires are less than a year old, but I’m having a hard time finding a shop that will mount used tires in the OC area. Is there a big danger in mounting used tires?

Um are the wheels a different size than what the used tires are currently on?

I just did the same on my STI at a discount. The wheels were an inch wider so there's a bit of a stretch but they did mention there is a limit to where they wouldn't mount them (stock I'm 8.5, went to 9.5, their limit IIRC was 10). It looks kinda stupid, but I have over 80% tread life on them.

I bought the brz performance package wheels from another member, tire size is exactly the same. Every shop I’ve called said they don’t mount used tires. I haven’t tried discount tire yet.

Uh... Then wtf. What tire shops are you going to?

This is just a swap, they shouldn't be hassling you unless there's a defect in your current (or tread life) tires, which they should be pointing out...

Just pull up to any local mom&pop tire shop and they’ll do it. Usually $15/ tire to dismount, remount and balance.

But i recommend R compound if you cant find a shop in your area.

You are looking is all the wrong places.
Find a happy Harrys used and discounted tire shop. They are usually in a lesser part of town. They are going to help, but their balancing equipment is two generations old.

It's not a problem in California, it's whatever shop OP is going to.

As I mentioned, I had my tires swapped to a 1 inch wider wheel in my STI a month ago at a Discount Tire. If anyone was going to give me crap it would been them.

Discount tires, America's tire, and all of those big chains have a company policy of not performing certain tasks. Such as stretching tires, performing rotations on anything lower than 2-3/32", removing TPMS (even to just transfer...), tires older than 8-10 years, etc.

Check out Menos Tires in Downtown Los Angeles. They close at 10 pm everyday. The only bad thing is they are probably cash only.
